Visitation: Friday, March 28, 2008 from 10:00am to 5:00pm and Sunday, March 30, 2008 from 11:00am to 6:00pm with family receiving friends from 4:00 to 6:00pm at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Forsyth
Funeral Service: Monday, March 31, 2008 at 11:00am at the Concordia Lutheran Church in Forsyth.
Burial: will follow in the Forsyth Cemetery
Marvin E. Dick Woelich, age 80, of Hysham passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2008.
Dick was born September 14, 1927 in Neeleys Landing, MO to Joe and Jane Woelich. He grew up and attended school in Neeleys Landing until leaving home at 15 years of age to work on a Mississippi river barge.Dick served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning home from serving in Korea he drifted west to Edgerton, WY where he worked as a cook in a caf before hiring out in the oilfields. On December 9, 1950 he married Frieda Deines in Sheridan, WY. He continued working for various drilling companies throughout the mountain west while raising 4 children and enjoying life. In 1972 he left the oilfield to begin his career as a water well driller. He and Frieda moved to Sarpy Creek, near Hysham, in 1974 where they built their water well business opened and operated the Sunrise Cafe in Hysham. He enjoyed his work of drilling water wells and helping the local residents and area ranchers with their water needs.
He served a term as a County Commissioner and enjoyed working with people. He took pride in his work and made many friends over the years. In addition to loving his work Dick enjoyed hunting and football. He was a member of the Lutheran Church and the Montana Water Well Association.
In addition to his parents Dick was preceded in death by his son Robert and 2 sisters.
He is survived by Frieda, his wife of 57 years; sons Lyle (Alethea) Woelich of Casper, WY, Richard (Cindy) Woelich of Forsyth, MT and George (Sabina) Woelich of Big Horn, MT; brothers James (Jean) of St. Genevive, MO, Clyde (Pat) of DeSoto, MO, Joseph (Marge) of Lake Elsinore, CA and Larry of WA; sister Loretta (Jack Steimann of St. Louis, MO; 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the local Hospice or the charity of your choice.
