Funeral services: will be held Monday, August 23, 2010 at 11:00am at the Concordia Lutheran Church in Forsyth, MT.
Burial with full military honors: will follow the procession in a horse drawn hearse to the Forsyth Cemetery. A luncheon will be served at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home.
Marvin Quinlan Sr, age 78, of Forsyth, MT passed away after a valiant three month battle with cancer on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at the Rosebud Health Care Center in Forsyth.
Marvin was born on December 24, 1931 to Joseph John and Emma (Scheidt) Quinlan, 6 miles south of Forsyth on Smith Creek. He attended school in Forsyth and graduated from Forsyth High School in 1952. Marvin entered and served in the Army beginning in October 1952. He was a Sgt in the 3rd Infantry Division in Korea, Headquarters Battery, Field Artillery Battalion. He received the Bronze Star Medal for Valor and UN and Korean Service Ribbons.Marvin married Leona Mickell on June 4, 1955 in Forsyth, MT. After their marriage they lived in Myers where Marvin worked for the Nansel ranch. They then resided north of Forsyth on the family ranch where Marvin was a lifelong rancher. He worked for John (JD) Melcher at Yellowstone Valley Vet Clinic and then for Rosebud County where after 35 years he retired as the construction foreman for the county road department.
Marvin is survived by his son Marvin Quinlan, Jr, his daughters, Brenda (Daryl) Duncan, and Christy Bierlein all of Forsyth, MT and Michelle (Dave) Allen of Shepherd MT, his brothers Howard (Merry) Quinlan, Robert (Georgia) Quinlan, Donald (Virginia) Quinlan, all of Forsyth, his sister Marie (Quinlan) Reichert of Billings and sisters-in-law Carol Quinlan and Joan Quinlan of Forsyth. Grandchildren Aaron Quinlan of Lubbock, TX, D.C. Duncan of Miles City, MT, Ryan Duncan and David Bierlein of Forsyth, 5 great-grandchildren and his faithful canine companion Tipper.
Marvin was preceded in death by his wife Leona (Mickell) Quinlan, his infant daughter Elizabeth Quinlan, his brothers Joe Quinlan and Arden Quinlan, his sister Josephine (Quinlan) Cory and brothers-in-law Frank Cory and Pete Reichert.
Family and friends will gather for a celebration of his life on Sunday, August 22, 2010 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Forsyth, MT. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 23, 2010 at 11:00am at the Concordia Lutheran Church in Forsyth, MT. Burial with full military honors will follow the procession in a horse drawn hearse to the Forsyth Cemetery. A luncheon will be served at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Rosebud County Search and Rescue or the F.A.I.R. Community Foundation or a charity of your choice.
