Marvin O. Vaagen passed away at the Eastern Montana Veterans Home in Glendive on May 3, 2009 of natural causes.
Marvin was born on September 13, 1931 at Taylor, North Dakota to Roland and Opal Vaagen. He received his elementary educations at Taylor. In 1952, he entered the U.S. Army serving in Korea until 1954. In 1955 he began X-Ray training and after his receiving his registry, he worked at the N.P. Hospital in Glendive from 1957 to 1966 and then Holy Rosary Hospital in Miles City from 1966 to 1975. Marvin then worked for the US Postal Service from 1975 until his retirement in 1994. Marvin married Mardella Mohl at Hazen on June 3, 1956. Marvin enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping at every opportunity.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Mardella; Daughter, Deeon (Mike) Bickle of Miles City; Son, Paul Vaagen of Warner-Robins, GA; three grandsons - Randy, Matthew and Scott Bickle of Miles City; Two great-granddaughters - Rychele and Autumn Bickle and one great-grandson - Kadan Bickle. Marvin is also survived by his sister Enola (Bob) Lambeff of Lewistown, Montana and his brother Gordon (Patty) of Taylor, North Dakota and sister-in-law Marlys Vaagen of Taylor, ND, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 with family receiving friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Miles City. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Custer County Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Miles City or to charity of their choice.
