Mary Alice Janssen Hardesty, age 88, of Miles City passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Billings Clinic.
Mary was born in Coalwood, Montana, January 23, 1928 to Sam and Opal Janssen. She attended Divide Country School and Custer County High School, graduating in 1945. She graduated in 1948 and worked as the Custer County Public Nurse from 1949 – 1950. Mary married the love of her life, John E. “Jack” Hardesty, in Miles City September 4, 1950. They lived in 24 houses throughout Miles City over the years as Jack developed his real estate brokerage and Mary continued her nursing career.
Mary was the glue that held her extended family together. She will be remembered as loving, selfless, funny, and quick; a fiercely competitive gamer and a very serious sports fan (Go Griz!).
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her brother, Glen.
Surviving are her six children; Barbara (Tom) Seekins, Fidele (Rick) Dent, Carol (Charles “Bing”) Cherry, Mike (Dana) Hardesty, Doug (Toni) Hardesty and Lynne (Marvin) Brush, ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Marlyn (Alice) and Jim (Barbara) Janssen and her sister-in-law, Bonnie Janssen, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including her very special friend, Lucy.
Memorials can be made in care of the Miles City Senior Drop-In Center, 17 South 11th Street.

Hardesty’s – I learned of Mary’s passing from my sister Kathy
i loved your mom. She was simply a fantastic lady. There are so many wonderful memories of Mary and Jack in the kitchen always wanting to visit and joke with the group of kids who loved to frequent the Hardesty’s. Mary was such a strong and optimistic person, and man did your folks set an exaample with their work ethic. She leaves a legacy in all of you that I am sure has her smiling and lighting up heaven with her great laugh!
