In Memory Of

Mary Ann Johnson, age 90, of Forsyth, MT

November 6, 1924 – April 11, 2015

Mary Ann Johnson, wife of Ted L. Johnson, passed away suddenly at her home of 69 years at the Ranch on Big Porcupine Creek, Saturday, April 11, 2015. She was born November 6, 1924 to William and Melvina (Jackson) Kennedy in Rosebud, MT.

She lived at the Porcupine Ranch on Little Porcupine Creek and attended the first grade at age 5, at the Draper School with Erma Polly as her school teacher. Later Mary Ann attended Forsyth Public Schools, graduating from Forsyth High School in 1941, at age 16.

Mary Ann worked as a telephone operator and later for MDU as a bonded secretary. She was united in marriage to Ted Johnson on December 22, 1946 in Forsyth. To this union they had three sons: Gary, Ron, and Dan. Together, they made their home on the ranch where they raised cattle and sheep for many wonderful years. Mary Ann was a devoted wife and mother. She took pride in her house and feeding anybody that Ted or her boys brought home. She cooked many splendid meals for the holidays and for her family and neighbors. Some of her signature dishes were pies, cinnamon rolls, and cookies. Mary Ann always had a large supply on hand for her grandchildren. She was renowned as a very fine cook. She loved to knit and knitted many afghans, socks, mittens, and sweaters for her family and grandchildren. Ted wore his famous red sweater for years and was always known to have it on.

Mary Ann was a lifelong member of Concordia Lutheran Church where she and Ted were confirmed together. She taught Vacation Bible School for many years and she enjoyed reading the Bible and her favorite Bible verses daily.

She is survived by her three sons: Gary (Mona), Ron, and Dan (Mary Ann); five grandchildren: Kristy (Robert) Majerus, Andrew (Kyla) Johnson, Barbara Johnson, Bruce Johnson, and Dennis Johnson; three great-grandchildren: Hadley and Caleb Johnson, and Zoey Majerus; her nephew Brian (Betty) Rolston; and her cousin Lavina Edgell. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ted of 49 years, and her older sister Ruth.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Concordia Lutheran Church.

A visitation will be held at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home Thursday, April 16, 2015 from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm with family to receive friends from 4-6:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, April 17, 2015 at Concordia Lutheran Church in Forsyth. A graveside service will follow at the Forsyth Cemetery. Following the burial, a meal will be served in the reception room of Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home.
