On the morning of September 7, 2021 Mary Sweeney passed away quietly at Laurel Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mary was 64.
Mary was born on July 9, 1957, in Miles City, MT the second child to Ambrose and Deloris Sweeney.
Mary graduated high school from Custer County High School in 1976 and went to Eastern Montana College from 1976 to 1981 where she graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Education. Mary quickly found out that she did not like teaching middle school children so she went to work at the Veteran’s Hospital in Miles City and stayed there for over 20 years. During that 20 years she took time off to get her Legal Assistant Certificate in 1989. Mary was an avid reader and loved history and could debate with the best of them. She loved her Green Bay Packers. She would not miss football season for anything. The only thing she asked for was a TV. Mary didn’t meet anyone that wasn’t a friend. But most of all she loved her family.
Mary Sweeney was proceeded in death by Ambrose W. Sweeney (father) and Deloris Leischner Sweeney (mother), numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Mary Sweeney is survived in death by James Sweeney (brother) of Billings, MT, Helen Sweeney (sister) and Michael Sweeney (brother) of Bozeman, MT, Donna Sweeney (aunt) of Billings, MT, Sylvia Clark (aunt) of Rochester, WA, Patsy Leischner of Rochester, WA (aunt), Ariel Martin (niece), Shelby Sweeney (niece) of Belgrade, MT, Katelyn Sweeney (niece) of Bozeman, MT and William Sweeney (nephew) of Billing, MT. And various other cousins.
In lieu of flowers please send donations to nami.org (National Alliance on Mental Health).

Mary Leischner Swenson says
Jim, Mike and Helen: so sorry for your loss. I remember Mary Kay as being such a strong, vibrant woman full of attitude that would not let her down. I remember well the year she got her car and was so proud to be able to drive and get around on her own. Her handicap only made her a stronger person. She is looking down on you all and smiling at all the good things being said. She was a role model for anyone who was challenged.

My condolences to Mary’s family. I have known Mary for five years, I am a director of recreational activities at Laurel Health and Rehab. I was shocked and saddened by Mary’s death, she was vibrant and full of life, her passing was so sudden. I have never heard Mary say an unkind word regarding anyone and believe me she was a rare jewel, as a resident in a nursing home she was faced with some very trying situations. Mary participated in just about any activity, we all admired her intelligence and humble nature. Really miss you Mary. God Bless all.
Judy Denson-Keller says
My heart, thoughts, prayers, and hugs go out to Mary’s family at this time. I remember Mary as we both attended EMC(MSUB). I remember her as always having a smile on her face, and always greeting people with a cheery “HELLO THERE!” There are times we sat together on the Greyhound bus, headed to spend spring break at our respective homes. She was always chatting with other passengers and telling them the history of the Sweeney name. She was so proud of her family heritage. She was a very happy, cheerful, and sweet person. May she now rest in peace.

Mary inspired all of us all at Curves for Women her determination to come daily to work out and enjoyed visit with all the ladies.
What a wonderful friendship we all made with her. She would even call me up to remind me that my team the Jaguar were playing. She loved that my hubby was a big Greenbay Packer fan just like her. “GO PACK GO!!
Maybe you can give Greenbay Packers a Angel helping hand to make it to the Super Bowl this Season.
(Wink wink and hint hint) I know you’re giggling now.
