Mary Cato Swayne a long time resident of Miles City passed away on August 18, 2004 in her sleep at Friendship Villa in Miles City Montana.

Mary Cato was born the only daughter of Percy and Myrtle Cato Williamson on April 1, 1910. Mary Cato was the granddaughter of O.C and Julia Cato of the famous XIT ranch that was such a part of Miles City history. Mary Cato attended schools in Miles City graduating from Custer County High School and the Spence School for women in New York. After the death of her father in 1943, Mary Cato with the help of Hector Reid and Howard Billing ran both the N-N ranches. Mary Cato had a great respect for both of these men as they did for her. She was also her mother's care taker until her mother passed away in 1952. Mary Cato married George Edwin Swayne on January 1, 1945. They enjoyed traveling and dancing for many wonderful years. Mr. Swayne passed away on his birthday in September of 2000. After 56 years together. Mary Cato was a wonderful lady, wife and care taker all of her life, a true friend to many people. She will be greatly missed by many. Mary Cato is survived by many friends, cousins and second and third cousins.

She is survived by the Leo Billing family who still run her ranch the N-N.

Mary Cato was a life time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Miles City. There is so much more that could be written about this very kind and generous lady. As she put it "'Those who know me, know those things about me and those who don't, don't care.
