Mary was born in Miles City and three months later she was baptized in Scotland, the homeland of her parents, Robert L. and Mary Sproat Anderson. Several months later the family returned to Ismay where her parents were early day ranchers. The family lived at the ranch south of Ismay during the summer months. When school started, she drove back and forth to town with her brothers until the stock was shipped in the fall, at which time the family moved to town. After graduating from Ismay High School, she attended the University of Montana for two years where she was a member of the Sigma KappaSorority. She then transferred to Western Montana College where she earned her teaching certificate. After teaching for one year in Conrad, she moved to Miles City to manage the Miles City Credit Bureau for three years.
While in high school, she and a friend made a pact that before they married they would save enough money for a trip to Scotland to get acquainted with relatives they had corresponded with since grade school. They spent the summer of 1937 there and returned aboard the Queen Mary I. On June 24, 1938, she married Seth L. (Steve) Dundas at her parentshome in Ismay. She returned to teaching in 1956 and attended classes at the Miles Community College on weekend and Eastern Montana College during the summer. She graduated in 1967 with her twin sons after earning a degree in elementary education. She taught in at Locate and Kircher Schools, and the last seventeen years at Pine Hills School for Boys. She always tried to touch the life of each student and make a difference in a positive way.
After their retirement, she and Steve started traveling. Their first overseas trip was to New Zealand with time spent in Fiji and Hawaii on their return. They joined a group going to Rome, Athens, the Holy Land, Egypt and the Valley of the Kings. Their last trip was to Scotland and England. After Steves death, Mary traveled to the Netherlands to visit her daughter and son-in-law, and later to Mexico and Eastern Canada. She lived in Miles City most of her adult life, but due to health problems, she moved to Billings in 2000 to be near her children. She resided at Grand Park Assisted Living until her death. She was an active member in her community as a deacon in the First Presbyterian Church of Miles City, the Presbyterian Women, the Eastern Star, Miles City Caledonian Society, Retired Teachers Association, Range Riders Reps, Half Century Club, and RSVP.
