Mary Althea Hawkins, age 72, of Miles City passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2007 at the Holy Rosary Health Center in Miles City.
Mary was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on January 14, 1935, the daughter of Laurence and Althea Agnes (Otteson) Carver. At the age of one, Mary moved with her family to Whittier and then to Long Beach, California where she attended school and graduated from high school. She played clarinet and sang and was involved in an all girl pastel band. She was also involved in church choir and recorded an album. She would sing for weddings and all occasions. In 1956, she married William C. Hawkins in Parker, Arizona. In 1957, they moved to Vista, California where she raised her family. In 1971, they divorced. She worked as a pharmacy Technician and at Pacific Federal Bank, then later worked for Taylor Made Golf for 12 years. She then pursued quilting and worked for Quilt In A Day, having two of her quilts published in books and video. Her quilts have been in several shows and displayed all over the United States. Mary moved to Miles City in 2001 to be near her daughter.
Mary was a member of the Miles City Centennial Quilters and the Thursday night Quilt Ladies. She several many ribbons at the county fair this last year.
Mary is survived by two daughters: Julie Mahler of Miles City, MT; Janet Hawkins of Vista, CA; a son, John Hawkins of Las Vegas, NV; a step daughter, Laura Harrison of Vista, CA; fourteen grandchildren: Jay, Nathan, Melissa, Krystal, Brandon, Erin, Carver, Johnny, Danny, Curtis, Jacob, Bryan, Emiliano, and Taylor; five great grandchildren: Kaden, Caleb, Evan, Ariana, and Hannah; and a sister, Olivia Ann (Robert) Christian of Palm Springs, CA.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Miles City. Interment will be held at a later date. Condolences may be sent to the family by visitingwww.stevensonandsons.com. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of the arrangements. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
