When she was a child, her family moved to Piney Creek where they homesteaded. She was raised and educated in that area, graduating from Sheridan High School. She also worked as a secretary for various oil companies in Casper and Billings, Montana. On November 14, 1947 she married Robert Kinnaird in Casper. To this union a daughter was born. After moving to Montana, Mary began her 30 year employment at the First Bank in Billings as a secretary and eventually worked her way up to the position of Vice President of Human Resources, a position which she held until her retirement. In 1998, she and her husband moved to Gillette to be closer to their daughter, Paula Degnan, and grandchildren, Ashley Sicks and Alyson Degnan.
Mary loved traveling, dancing, cooking, sewing, crocheting, and doing word find puzzles. She enjoyed gardening and hated dandelions with a passion. Her favorite pastime of all was spending time with her grandchildren, Ashley and Alyson.
