Mary Lamphere, age 88, died Monday, February 2, 2004 at the Sheridan Hospital in Sheridan, Wyoming of natural causes.
Mary Ann Lamphere was born September 5, 1915 the daughter of Edna (Burkens) and George Caywood in Buffalo, Wyoming the youngest of six children. At the age of fourteen, she broke horses for the U.S. Calvary. Her love for horses stayed with her throughout her entire life. In 1941, she became a beautician and in 1954, she became an instructor, where she influenced many lives; some who still remember her to this day, and the things she taught them. She has lived in Wyoming nearly all of her life and in Gillette, Wyoming since 1967. Mary was known for her love for everyone. She was always ready with a smile. Even when she wasnt feeling well, the worst thing you could say about her was she got feisty. She was a very gentle person with a strong spirit and at times a fierce determination. Her great grandson, James, says he remembers her best for her strength and awesome sense of humor.
Mary is survived by her three children: Ron Kelly, Pat Edwards, and Barbara Lamphere; twelve grandchildren: Nathan, Shane, Shannon, and Shawn Kelly, John, and Ed Barker, Dennis Geiss, Balinda Bell, Ronda Blake, Charles, and Wade Taylor, and Kim Hendricks and families; sixteen great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one infant brother; three sisters: Evelyn Schultz of Buffalo, Wyoming; Georgia Popmisel of Buffalo, Wyoming; Ruth Bowman of Edger, Montana; and one brother, Bud Caywood of Gillette, Wyoming.
A living memorial has been established in Marys name to benefit a local park.
