Mary Lee Colvin Martell, age 84, of Billings formerly of Miles City passed away on January 27, 2009 following her battle with C.O.P.D. and heart troubles surrounded by all of her loved one's at her home.
She was born in Murdo, South Dakota on March 24, 1924, to Harry and Gladys Colvin. Mary was raised on the Rosebud Reservation as well as in Mission, South Dakota. When she was 11 years old, the family moved to Miles City where they made their home for several years. Mary attended school through the 8th grade when she then stayed home to care for her younger siblings. When she was 16, Mary met the love of her life and together faced many obstacles and through it all their love endured and grew strong. At that time, Daniel Martell Sr. and Mary Colvin Eloped to Sidney, MT where hand in hand, side by side they married on the glorious day of August 6th, 1941. Daniel and Mary moved to Fort Peck reservation where she lived until 1986 when she moved to Miles City. In 2006, she moved to Billings, MT to be closer to her daughter and family.During her lifetime, Mary loved and cared for a great deal of things. Her passion was her children. She loved listening to country music, reading books, collecting dolls and ceramics, crocheting, knitting, puzzles and spending quality time with all of her loved one's. She also liked to cook and bake. Mary loved her children with her whole heart and life. She raised them the best she knew how. The role of Mom and Mommy was taken seriously and she loved and accepted her children unconditionally. Mary believed in the Catholic ways of life. She made many friends throughout her life. She will be greatly missed by all who came to know her. Her friendly and warm smile and beautiful, gentle soul will never be forgotten. Mother, Grandmother, Great and Great-Great-Grandmother Mary well keep your flame burning in our hearts and know that you are always with us. We will remember the laughs and precious moments have a great walk home.
Mary is survived by her ten children- Margaret (Victor) Fasthorse in Billings, MT, Sharon (Bill) Hawk in Miles City, MT, Daniel Jr. (Sue) Martell in Genera, North Dakota, Patti Silk in Miles City, MT, James (Cassandra) Martell in Billings, MT, Donald Martell in Deer Lodge, MT, Willie (Doreen) Martell in Poplar, MT, Connie (Cordell) Blackeagle in Billings, MT, Sandra (John) Dolajak, in Miles City, MT, Dennis (Joyce) Martell of Wolf Point, MT. She is also survived by 150+ grandchildren, great, great-great grandchildren, brother in laws, sister in laws, and a special niece Pee Wee L. Martell of Blair, MT, also sisters Rose (Bill) Janes in Arkansas, Nancy Covin.
Mary was preceded in death by Daniel Martell, S.R., daughters; Daniel Mary and Olga Martell, David Martell, her mother & father, three brothers, two sisters, mother and father in law, son in law; Frederick Silk S.R. also granddaughters and grandsons, brother in laws and sister in laws.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 2, 2009 with a rosary at 7:00 pm at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday at February 3, 2009 at 10:00 am at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home.
