Mary Meidinger, age 91, of Miles City passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at the Holy Rosary Health Center in Miles City.
Mary Lenora Meidinger was born on May 13, 1918 to Earl and Gladys (Lewis) Childers in Pomeroy, WA. She started grade school in Pomeroy and moved to Miles City with her parents and two brothers in the fall of 1928. The family settled in the Yellowstone Valley, where her grandparents lived. Mary finished school at Kircher School and attended Custer County High School. Mary worked at the Holy Rosary Hospital in the diet kitchen for 2 years. In 1940, Mary married Melvin Timberman in Miles City. They had three daughters and a son. She worked at Made-A-Day, J.C. Penneys and was a sewing teacher at Singer Sewing Center. Mary also worked at the V.A. Hospital.In 1969, Mary married Ed Meidinger and moved to Kinsey. She drove beet truck and helped Ed in the field. Mary enjoyed working with the animals and raised several bum lambs, calves, chickens and geese.
In 1972, Ed and Mary sold the farm and built a home closer to town. They spent a lot of time making their place pretty. They bought a travel trailer, joined the Good Sam Club, and enjoyed traveling and fishing with family and friends. She loved to crochet and made afghans for their children and toys for the grandchildren.In 1992, Ed and Mary built a house in the Michels Addition and moved to town. They kept busy working in their garden and tending to their flowers.In June of 2004 due to ill health they moved to the Eagles Manor.
Mary is survived by three daughters, Donna (Oscar) Ronning of Dickinson, ND Ruby (Leo) Gottwald, Melva (Ed) Curnan, and a son Jim (Linda) Timberman all of Miles City, 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren, brothers Gene (Doris) Childers, sister-in-law Martha of Billings, MT and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her step-children (Virginia (Duane) Strohmayer, Jerry (Sandy) Meidinger and Bob Meidinger all of Miles City, Richard (Linda) Meidinger of Lemmon South Dakota and Gene (Nora) Meidinger of Orange, CA.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Don Childers, Kennith Childers and Ray (Rene) Childers, one grandchild and 2 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 24, 2009 from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Custer County Cemetery.
