Mathilda Wagner, age 91, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, March 31, 2025 at McCone County Health Center, Circle, MT.
Mathilda was born to Fredrick and Elizabeth (Koppenstein) Kron on September 26, 1933 in Fundu-Sarazika, Bessarabia. At age 16, in December 1949, Mathilda and her family came to the United States by ship. Mathilda was working at Holy Rosary Hospital in Miles City, MT when she was introduced to Roy Wagner. They were married on March 3, 1956 at the EUB Church in Circle, MT. In 1962, they moved to the family farm where they raised their four children, Deanna, Donald, Darryl, and Arlen. In 1976, she began working at the McCone County Health Center where she worked for many years. In June 2022, she moved into the McCone County Nursing Home where she remained until her death.
Mathilda was a devout Christian who loved the Lord. She was a hard worker as a help mate with the farming, milking cows, hauling bales, etc., and gardening and canning to provide food for her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Wagner; her parents, Fredrick and Elizabeth Kron; two brothers, Reinhold Kron and Ted Kron; sisters, Olga Roesler, Lydia Wenz, Ida Wenz, and Jackie Meidinger.
She is survived by her four children, one daughter, Deanna (Jon) Kliewer of Lustre, MT, three sons, Don (Cheryl) Wagner of Havre, Darryl (Kari) Wagner of Billings, and Arlen Wagner of Circle; six grandchildren, Matthew (Katie) Wagner, Megan (Ben) Buckridge, Whitney (Schalk) van Zyl, Ethan (Colleen) Kliewer, Jena Wagner, and Jordyn (Ty) Shockley; five great-grandchildren, Elijah, Adelaide, and Alexa Buckridge, and Maggie and Zeke Wagner.
A funeral service is planned for Saturday, April 12 at 11:00 am at the Faith Assembly of God Church in Circle, MT. Interment at the Riverview Cemetery will follow. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.stevensonandsons.com.

My sympathy to all of Matilda’s family. I got to know Matilda when we worked at the nursing home. Such a nice lady. She told of some of the things she endured growing up. I told her she should write a book.
