Matthew (Mugue) Oliver Campbell Nielsen is in heaven today, charming the ladies and telling his mother and father all the stories they've missed since they've been gone. He was looking forward to visiting all his friends and family in heaven. Matthew's lifelong adventure ended on February 14, 2007 at Trinity Hospital in Wolf Point with the guidance and prayers of his family. Matthew had suffered from lead poisoning and a massive head injury of which he fought hard for so long. His body just couldn't take it anymore.
Matthew was born on April 24, 1964 in Wolf Point to Malcolm and Helen (Chestnut) Campbell. The family lived in Lame Deer and later moved to Hardin where he remained until 1979, then moved to Ballantine and Worden. He attended school at Huntley Project and graduated from Senior High in 1982. He received several art scholarships for his pencil portrait of Max Baucus which hangs in the Capitol Building in Helena. Matthew was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. After Graduation Matthew married Patty Jo Raines from Worden whom he later divorced. He then married Jacquelyn Young of Washington. Matthew and Jacque had two children, Matthew and Brenda. They lived in Camino Island, WA and later Billings. More recently, Matthew moved to Wolf Point to be closer to his brothers, who cared for him throughout the remainder of his life. Matthew was an avid pool player, exceptional artist, boxer, champion karate, Ju-jitsu and National Ti Kwando champion. His artistic house painting skills were requested all over the states of Washington and Montana. He was a manager at Physio-Control, painted towers at Exxon, bartender/bouncer, a skilled framer and house builder with his brothers. He also worked for Sears and had his own carpet cleaning company. He and his brother, David, managed many jobs, painting and building homes together.
Matt was a very charming young man who struggled with his illness for many years. All he thought about were his children and hoped that someday he could involve them in their Indian heritage of which he was extremely proud. He was a very proud man who was stronger than most men. His heart was filled with kindness and generosity. His artistic ability was so amazing that is pictures are displayed all over the world. He was the youngest player on the El Chap pool team on which he made many of his closest friends. His family of many was very important to him. His dreams were enormous and his life was full of adventure and fight.
