Mavis Bell, age 74, died on Sunday, March 28, 2004 at Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette, Wyoming of natural causes.

Mavis Darlene Bell was born on May 31, 1929 the daughter of Isaac and Jennie Christina (Meinerts) Browen in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She was raised and educated in Farmer, South Dakota. On February 24, 1947, she married Richard Dick R. Bell in Mitchell, South Dakota. To this union three children were born. While Maviss primary focus was raising her children, she had many part time jobs over the years to help make a little extra money, some of which were working at the Piggly Wiggly and the Dale Anderson Mink Farm in Mitchell, South Dakota. The Bells moved to Gillette in 1959, where Mavis held employment at the Sands Motel and Lounge, the Bears Den, Deckers grocery store, the Farmers CO-OP, the Black Gold Cafe and Dales Hot Shot Service. She and her husband were also part owners of the Deer Haven Lodge from 1971-1972. Mavis devoted her life to her family. She always remembered everyone's birthday, not only her parents, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but also every aunt, uncle, niece, nephew and in-law, this was a big endeavor, as her family members were quite numerous. No one's special day ever escaped Maviss attention. She enjoyed spending her time reading, completing crossword puzzles, constructing jigsaw puzzles and playing card games. She had a passion for quilting, crocheting, bird watching and genealogy.Mavis loved being outdoors and showering attention on her flower and vegetable gardens. She had a special appreciation for music; when she was younger, she loved to sign along with radio and records, especially hymns and western music. She also held a fascination for collecting little people figurines such as elves, pixies, gnomes. She was a unique and loving individual who will be missed greatly by her family and friends.

Mavis is survived by her husband Dick; one son: Russell Russ Bell; two daughters: Dolores Dee Likewise and Jeanette Net Field all of Gillette, Wyoming; three sisters: Dorothy Dirks of George, Iowa; Iona Gerlach of Gillette, Wyoming; Charlene Kuehne of Worthington, Minnesota; ten grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers: Dale K. Browen, Ivan W. Browen, Elrey L. Browen, Lance R. Browen and an infant brother, Clifford K. Browen; and two sisters Marcella I. Klingenberg, and infant sister Neotta B. Browen.

Memorials are suggested to the Heptner Oncology Center of Campbell County Memorial Hospital. Donations may be sent in care of the Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home at 210 W. 5th St., Gilette, Wyoming 82716.
