On Saturday evening October 29, 2016, Max Steinke passed away unexpectedly from a tragic accident. Max was born on May 29, 1997 in Austin, TX to Lisa Ross and Jeff Steinke. One year later his brother Kyle was born, to become his constant companion. When he was 5 years old, the family moved to Des Moines, IA. In 2006, Max and his family moved to Billings, MT. Everywhere that Max went, he made wonderful friends. Many friends here today have shared his life since 4th grade, and have been dear to him through all these years. He has always been called an ‘old soul’ even from the age of 4, and he cared very deeply for people and animals. Upon moving to Miles City, MT, he attended Custer County District High School. After an illness that had him miss more than a month of school, he decided to finish up at Montana Youth Challenge Academy in Dillon MT, where he graduated with the 32nd class. He excelled there, mentored many, and completed his CNA. He then moved back to our ranch in Miles City, the place he loved the most. He had plans to attend college. Max is survived by his mother Dr. Lisa Ross of Miles City and Sidney MT; his brother Kyle Steinke of Miles City, MT; his father Jeff Steinke and siblings Joseph and Veronica Steinke of Okemos, MI; his Aunt Denyse Steinke and Uncle Troy Harbacheck of Des Moines, IA; his grandmother Mary Steinke of Des Moines, IA; his Uncle Brian Bartling of Houston, TX; his Uncle James Bartling of Chicago, IL; his Uncle Jim (Brenda) Steinke of Marion, IA; his cousins Sean, Joshua, and Kiersten Steinke of Cedar Falls, IA; his cousin Brooke Blomquist of Roque Bluffs, ME; his cousin Brandon Blomquist of Texas; his Grammy and Grampy Deb and Bob Nolen of New Braunfels, TX; his Great Aunt Dolores (Ed) Hahn of Baraboo, WI; his Great Aunt Carolyn (Ed) Bergman of Stevens Point, WI; his Great Grandmother Vera Marcoe and Great Aunts Elyse Marcoe and Kay Hagel of Fond du Lac, WI. He was preceded in death by his Grandfather Donald Steinke; his Grandfather Lloyd Bartling; his grandmother Audrey Rhodes; his Aunt Shelley Blomquist; his Great Uncle Jerry Marcoe; and his Great Aunt Jo Ann Gause.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Grace Bible Church. Dear Jeff, Dr. Ross, Kyle, Joseph and Veronica I am so very sorry for your tragic loss of your beloved Son and Brother, Max. I did not know him personally, but I’ve enjoyed many stories and pictures of him that Jeff has been kind enough to share with myself and others who work with him.
What a wonderful young man you’ve raised, a man with a kind and giving heart which he willingly shared with everyone who crossed paths with him. I’m sure each of you and his many friends were affected by the love and warmth he shared in many different ways that brought joy to each of you over the years.
I pray that young Max is held in the comforting arms of His Creator and that you, your extended families, and loved one’s can hold and help each other during this devastating time of loss. The amazing memories and stories you each have of Max can be shared, bring a bright moment of peace and serenity into your hearts in the days and years ahead of you.
I would like to share a verse from my Grandmothers Bible which she had dog-eared in her Bible which she had shared with many of her friends and other loved one who grieved the loss of a child over the years. I hope it will provide you all with a bit of peace and tranquility.
But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not try to stop them, for the
kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
The Bible, Matthew 19:14
God Bless you all!
Kris Miller says
