Maxine Rosenberg, 82, of Miles city died peacefully on October 9, 2009 at Holy Rosary Hospice from lung cancer. Her battle was brief, but courageous and with the greatest outlook throughout her fight, never losing her humor, great attitude and appreciation for those taking care of her.
Maxine was born on August 1, 1927 in Ismay, MT to Howard and Marie (Woodruff) Myers. She was one of 7 children and the first to be born in a hospital. She grew up on the Leon place, east of Miles City.
She attended country school at Foundation, in the Knowlton area through the 8th grade and then attended and graduated from Custer County High School in 1944. During high school her and her sister Evalyn were roommates and good friends. While in high school she worked in Miles City at Vaughn Ragsdale as a clerk. After graduation she went to the Bradshaw ranch to work as a cook where she met Vic Silver. On January 12, 1946 she and Vic married in Miles City. After their marriage they worked many ranches in the surrounding area including the Ball Ranch, Petros place near Marsh, Simpsons, Henry place, Monroes and Birchers. After working ranches and grading county roads, Vic started driving truck and Maxine started her restaurant career. She started as a waitress/cashier at the Range Riders Cafe and later made her profession as a cook. She worked at the Beacon Cafee, little Beacon Cafe by Parkers and the Ten Spot Cafe, which she later leased and owned for a time. This was a memorable time for her family as it was fun to hang out there. We had family gatherings and there was always something good to eat. She worked at the Red Rock for many years making her wonderful buns, yummy soup and many other great food for the caf and supper club. Maxine and Vic briefly moved to Billings and later divorced. Maxine returned to Miles City and went back to work at Red Rock and continued there until it closed. She finished her career at the Country Kitchen and 4 Bs until she retired.
Maxine and Vic had 2 children, Sterling and Serri. Both children were born in Miles City After Maxine returned to Miles City she and Bill Rosenberg were married on October 5, 1974. After Bill became ill, Maxine retired. During this time they were involved with the VFW and even though Maxine was retired, she put on many great meals at the VFW for groups and functions and was so happy to have the special help of her grandson Ryan. Throughout her life, family hasnt been just family, but some of our best friends and these relationships continue to the next generations. Many gatherings at Aunty Eves especially for holidays. Maxine has always loved to cook and feed people, spending time with her family who were willing participants for new concoctions and having fun. She made so many sought after treats, chocolate covered cherries, buns, seafood chowder and too many to mention. She also had a love for football and was always willing to get together Sunday mornings for brunch and a day of football with her family.
