Melba McKeever Currey, 98, of Jordan, Montana passed away on July 2, 2022 at the Garfield County Health Center surrounded by her family.
Melba was born to Julius and Annie Saylor on August 30, 1923 at Brusett, Montana. She attended Lone Tree country school first through eighth grades. Then she attended high school in Jordan, Montana. At the age of 17, she lost her mom and she took over the homemaker duties and helped raise her younger sister, Abbie. On August 29, 1942, she was united in marriage to Frank S. McKeever. From this union four children were born: Mike (Noreen) McKeever of Jordan, MT; Judy (Dale) Bollinger of Jordan, MT; John (Cathy) McKeever of Jordan, MT and Maribeth (special friend, Alan) Trumbo of Sioux Falls, SD. On February 19, 1985 Frank passed away.
On November 28, 1987, she was united in marriage to Jack Currey. With this union, Melba gained six more children: Dan (Phyllis) Currey, Dallas Currey, Donovan (Heather) Currey, Dirk (Miriam) Currey, Debbie (Jay) Terret and Darla (Wade) Coulter and Jackie. With the joining of these two families, she became a very proud grandma, great grandma and great great grandma.
Melba was a member of the Blackfoot Home Demonstration Club and she helped out at the museum. She loved to do crafts, cross stitch, loved cooking and baking and working in her beautiful yard. Melba also spent many enjoyable hours with friends researching and writing books on local history. She also enjoyed hauling the “old folks” around. The family members always knew that a “special” dinner invitation meant that she had a small or large chore that she needed done. We never knew what to expect at dinner but usually it was her delicious chicken pot pie. No matter the chore; she would say “it will only take a minute” and would get you set up for what was on her list of tasks at that “minute” it was an enjoyable time… usually.
Melba loved to bake and cook for others. She never went visiting without a delicious dish to share.
Melba is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Walt, Louie, Jerome; one sister, Abbie; Frank and Jack.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Pioneer Cemetery in Jordan. Per her wishes, only family will attend. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting: www.stevensonandsons.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Pioneer Cemetery and/or the Jordan Swimming Pool.
