Funeral Services: Tuesday, October 28, 2003 at 2:00 pm at the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery Shelter
Funeral Services for Melvin Clark of Gillette will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2003 at the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery Shelter in Gillette, Wyoming with Pastor David Berger of the Bethlehem Community Church officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. on Monday, October 27, 2003 at the Stevenson-Wilson Funeral home of Gillette, Wyoming.
Mr. Clark, age 87, died on Thursday, October 23, 2003 at the Pioneer Manor in Gillette, Wyoming of natural causes.
Melvin Don Clark was born on April 26, 1916 to Robert Allen and Alice Edna (Morris) Clark in O Neill, Nebraska. At the age of six months, he moved with his family to a homestead Southeast of Gillette. He attended rural schools until high school and completed his education while boarding in Gillette. As a teenager, he was a Jr. Taxidermist, practicing his art on deer, antelope and small animals. In 1935, Melvin married Ethel Hoxsie and in 1937, they moved three miles west of the homestead and started their own ranch. He and Ethel supplemented their income by selling dairy products and chickens. They ranched together until 1974, when they retired and moved to Gillette. Mr. Clark enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved going back to the ranch and visiting. He shared great stories of his life, passing on treasured memories to his loved one's. Melvin appreciated the variety of dining out, which he did frequently all around town. He also enjoyed visiting at the Senior Center, where he many friends.
Mr. Clark is survived by a daughter, Betty (John) McGee of Gillette, Wyoming; a son, Allen (Elvira) Clark of Rozet, Wyoming; two nieces, eight grandchildren: Dan McGee, Tom McGee, Lonny McGee, Diana Murphy, Dean Clark, Daryle Clark, Stephany Clark-Urb and Angelo Clark; fifteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ethel, in 2003; a son, Glen, in 1992; and a brother, Morris.
A memorial has been established to benefit the Campbell County Senior Center or the Heptner Oncology Unit at the Campbell County Memorial Hospital.
