Melvin Dennis “Mel” Kernutt, age 79, died at home on Saturday, September 7, 2019 from complications of lung disease. His wife Nancy and grandson Darren were with him at the time of his death.
Mel was born in Roseburg, Oregon on July 13, 1940, the second child born to Joseph and Esther Kernutt, joining his sister Constance Arlene. He spent most of his early adulthood in the automobile business in different cities and states. He returned to Oregon and was working in Bend, Oregon where he met and fell in love with Nancy. They moved to San Diego, California and got married in 1986, later moving back to Oregon where they purchased a business. They eventually moved to Miles City, Montana where they remained.
Mel was preceded in death by his parents and sister. He is survived by his wife Nancy; son Michael Kernutt; daughter Kimberly Sheperd; stepdaughters: Kathryn Henrichs and Tami Morey; adopted daughters Janet Torres and Shauna Bowman and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
