Melvin Dean Johnson, age 69, of Miles City passed away on Thursday, June 07, 2007 at his home in Miles City.
Melvin was born in Muscatine County, Iowa on December 9, 1937, the son of Oscar E. and Virginia (Inman) Johnson. After his parents passed away, he moved toOng, Nebraska where he was raised by Marie and Harry Inman. He attended schools and graduated from High School inOng. Following his graduation in 1955, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi where he worked with electronics. Melvin was honorably discharged in 1959 from the 902nd Radar Squadron. Melvin married Kay Stewart in 1959 in Miles City. In 1963, he entered the United States National Guard Reserves and began working at the VA in Miles City until 1964 when he began working at the post office where he retired in 1992 after 36 years of government service. Following his retirement, he and Kay remained in Miles City.
Melvin was a longtime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. He was an avid reader and loved being on his computer and fishing and being on his boat. Melvin loved his family and enjoyed traveling in his camper with his wife of 47 years and especially spending time with his grandkids.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Kay Johnson of Miles City, MT; three daughters:Delite Chandler of Douglas, WY; Amy (Jonathan) Stinson of Miles City, MT; Becky (Richard) Eddy of Tacoma, WA; ten grandchildren: Christopher and Joseph Chandler, Misty Merritt, Isaac and Nathan Higgins, Chelsea Maguire, Jacobi and Alayna Dietrich, and Taylor and Ryan Eddy; and one great grandchild, Drew Ann Merritt. He was preceded in death by his parents, his surrogate parents, Marie and Harry Inman, two brothers: Oscar E. and Jerry L. Johnson, and a grandson Drew Williamson.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. A Prayer service will be held on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 11, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Eastern Montana State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors provided by VFW Post #1579. Condolences may be made to the family by visiting www.stevensonandsons.com.
