In Memory Of

Merlin Jones, 40, of Lame Deer

October 26, 1972 – April 10, 2013

Merlin “Jay” Jones Sr.,  Hotoa’ȯhma’aestse “Red Buffalo”, journeyed to the next world on April 10, 2013.  He was born on October 26, 1972 to Hugh Jones and Phyllis Teeth.  He attended Lame Deer Public school and Kicking Horse Job Corp.

“Jay” worked for the local IGA store and the Cheyenne Depot.  He also thinned & planted Trees for Northern Cheyenne Forestry allowing him to be where he loved most, the outdoors, where he loved to hike through hills and fish.  Merlin worked for 4 or 5 years as a janitor for Lame Deer Trading for Mr. Mullins, he also worked at the Boys & Girls Club for a year.  He was always tinkering with something around the house trying to keep busy.  “Jay” loved the old traditional ways of the Northern Cheyenne, and never believed in arguing with his parents.  He was always light hearted and laughing and loved to joke with his friends. He was always active and was a caring person who loved his children very much.  Merlin liked to cook and bead when he wasn’t doing anything else.

Merlin married Drucella in 1992 and later divorced.

Merlin is survived by his son Merlin Jay Jones, Jr., daughters Merlyn Celestine Jones and April L. Jones.  His brother Niel Len Jones, father Hugh Jones of Kirby, MT., mother Phyllis Teeth of Lame Deer, MT.

He is preceded in death by his brother Aaron Samson, Uncles Ross Teeth, Austin Teeth, grandparents Frank and Marie Teeth, aunts Celestine Teeth, Iolah Teeth Gaskell.

Extended families include Spotted Elk, Seminoles, Limberhand, Hi Walker, Spang, Sioux, Spotted Wolf, Brady, Little White Man, Sooktis, White Dirt, Big Left Hand, Stands in Timber, Shoulderblade, Rising Sun, Knows His Gun, Harris and Weasel Bear.  Our family is large so if we forgot someone we apologize.

My sincere condolences to the family and friends of Merlin Jones – May you find comfort in your loving memories, and in knowing that God is “near to those that are broken at heart; and those who are crushed in spirit he saves.” (Psalm 34:18) Our loving Creator did not intend for us to suffer and has promised to soon “swallow up death forever…and wipe the tears from all faces.” (Isaiah 25; 8) There will come a time that no one earth-wide will suffer (Psalms 37:29). Please be comforted and encourage by the Bible’s hopeful message (john17:3).
