In Memory Of

Mia Zuehlsdorff, age 52, of Colstrip

July 11, 1971 – January 2, 2024

In loving memory of Mia “Butterfly” Victoria Risser Zuehlsdorff

On January 2nd, 2024, Mia Zuehlsdorff, aged 52, peacefully passed away after bravely battling cancer for a year and a half. She was surrounded by loved ones in Billings, MT.

Mia Zuehlsdorff, born on July 11th, 1971, in Valley City, ND, to Darrell and Tina (Valentina) Risser, Mia was the third of four siblings: Rey, Thomas, Mia and Glen. Her early years included residences in Long Beach, CA (1973-1976), a return to Valley City (1976-1978), and eventually settling in Colstrip, MT.

Mia Zuehlsdorff, an alumna of Colstrip Public Schools, embarked on a journey that intertwined her academic years with a beautiful love story by meeting her life partner of 34 years, Roger Zuehlsdorff, within the walls of her alma mater.

Mia graduated in 1989, and later that year, she and Roger sealed their love on July 26th. Their adventure began with a relocation to Germany, where the roots of their family tree started to grow with the birth of their oldest, Jenni. A year later, they found themselves in Fort Stewart, GA, where they expanded to welcome two more additions, Heaven and Courtnee, during their four-year stay. In 1995, Roger and Mia felt the pull of home and returned to Colstrip. Two years later, they completed the family with the arrival of their youngest, Crystine, in 1997. Mia’s journey, marked by love, growth, and a sense of homecoming, encapsulates the rich tapestry of her 34-year marriage with Roger and the joyous milestone they’ve celebrated together.

Mia held a diverse array of jobs over her lifetime, but the roles she held in the highest regard was that of Deli Manager at Rosebud Foods in Colstrip, MT. In this position, she not only took pride in her work but also forged numerous meaningful relationships—with both her colleagues and the community members. Mia’s dedication to serving the community was a true reflection of her passion for making a positive impact.

Mia, the epitome of kindness, was a passionate fan of the Minnesota Vikings and the Montana Grizzlies (Go Griz!). A devoted mother to four daughters, she spoke with them daily, urging them to be their best. Mia was an unwavering supporter, cheering them on in sports and offering comfort in tough times. Her love extended to her 8 (soon to be 9) grandchildren, whom she adored and spoiled during their visits.

Mia was blessed by her family and is survived by her husband, Roger Zuehlsdorff; her father Darrell Risser; her two older brothers Rey and Thomas Azarcon; her four daughters, Jenni (Larry Eckart), Ashleigh and Morgan, Heaven (Damon Ash-Eide), Brock and Emma, Courtnee (Boyd Sinclair), Breilynn and Zach, Crystine (Logan Bohnet) Greysen, Blakely and Baby #3; all of her nieces and nephews; North Dakota Family, friends and colleagues. Mia is preceded in death by her mother, Tina (Valentina) Azarcon Risser, and her brother Glen Alan.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Haizen and the dedicated staff at Billings Clinic, as well as Sara and Michaela on the Inpatient Cancer Center floor. Special appreciation goes to the supportive communities of Colstrip and Forsyth. Your kindness and care during this challenging time have been deeply appreciated.

A Celebration of Life will be held February 24th, 2024, at the Colstrip Moose Lodge Annex at 2pm.

The Burial, exclusively for immediate family, will be scheduled at a later time during the spring/summer
