Heaven gained another cowboy and lost a few wild horses on Saturday, December 23 as Michael Eugene “Mickey” Caywood, Sr. was called home to the Lord. Mickey passed at the age of 73 in Billings surrounded by family.
Mickey was born on Dec. 27, 1943 to Harold and Helen Caywood in Aberdeen, Washington. Mickey would later come to call Sam Bixby as his second father where he was raised in the Kirby Creek area.
On January 21, 1966 Mickey was wed to Delores Garcia. The union led to four children; Lisa (Rick) Flack, Michael (Marti) Caywood, Jr., Anita Caywood, and Chrystal (Jesse) Kester.
Mickey worked a number of cowboy jobs before working for the state of Montana until his retirement. Mickey was an avid horseman, leatherworker, jewelry maker, and all-around cowboy. He felt most at home in the saddle somewhere in the hills of Southeastern Montana.
Mickey is survived in death by his brothers Don (Marianne) Caywood and David (Dominga) Bixby, a sister, Susan (Russ) Fenner, his children, his eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and another on the way. Proceeding Mickey in death were his brothers, Ron (Wanda) Bixby, Bobby (Norma) Bixby, and Steve Caywood. Mickey was also very close to the Lafranier and Small families.
A rosary service is planned for Tuesday, December 26, at 6:00 p.m. in the Busby Catholic Church. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 27 in the Busby Catholic Church.
