Michael Glenn Hoagland, age 81, died peacefully at home surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren on March 1st, 2024 in Terry, Montana.
Mike will be remembered for his easygoing personality, quick wit, and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He lived a full life and enjoyed sharing stories of his life at the kitchen table over a cup of coffee.
Mike loved attending games and coaching his children through baseball and softball. He was a lifelong New York Yankees fan, catching the games whenever possible. He also found fun in hunting and fishing, farming, tinkering with anything electronic, and vacationing to visit family.
Mike was born on January 11th, 1943, to Esther and Herbert Hoagland of Terry, Montana. In 1948, Mike moved with his parents and siblings to the present-day Hoagland farm south of Terry. He attended the Terry Schools, graduating in 1961.
Mike was an electronics technician for 20 years in the U.S. Navy from 1963-83, retired as Chief Petty Officer. His Naval duty stations included: Recruit Training center, San Diego, CA, ET “A” school at Treasure Island, CA, Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi, TX, ET “B” school at Treasure Island, Naval School Command, Vallejo, CA, USS Dyess (DD-880) home ported at Newport, Rhode Island, Naval Communications Station Rough and Ready Island, Stockton, CA, Mobile Technical Unit, Yokosuka, Japan, and Trident Refit Facility, Bangor, WA. During this time, he married Dona and had three daughters Allison, Elizabeth, and Patricia.
In 1984, Mike returned to Terry and married Adele in 1988. They had three children: Mary, James, and Lana.
Mike and Adele purchased the family farm south of Terry in 1992 and with his brother Pat operated the farm while splitting residences between Terry and Turtle Lake, ND. In 1998, Mike and family moved back to the family farm south of Terry.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents Esther and Herbert, brothers Harley and Pat, and grandson Michael Fisher.
Mike is survived by his wife Adele, and their children Mary (Tanner) Mitchell, James (Bailly) Hoagland, children Corbin and Isla, and Lana (David) Aderholdt children Gwen and Liam, daughters Tina, Alison (James) children Harley, Kennedy and Daphne, Elizabeth (Johnny) and son Ian, Patricia (Cody) brother Kelly (Penni) Hoagland and sister Dixie (Lacey) Cannon.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 6th at 2:00 pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Terry Montana. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting: www.stevensonandsons.com.
