Michael Calvin LaFayette, 40, of Miles City, Montana departed this earth on 3/5/23 after his lifelong battle with Cystic Fibrosis. In his final moments, he appreciated the comfort of his mother Mary and cousin Dona, who remained by his side.
Michael was born on 12/16/1982 to Mary and Scott LaFayette in Miles City, MT. After Michael graduated from Custer County District high school in 2003, he went on to study computer technology at Montana State University Billings. Occupationally, he most recently held a night auditor position with Choice Hotels International in 2021 where he began his climb to the top, ending up as a General Manager of his very own location two years later in Dillon, Montana. That manager position really made him bloom, showing that someone who seems introverted and shy can be a confident, strong leader!
Michael spent his free time training dogs, attending music concerts, hunting, fishing, and traveling when he could. He was passionate about technology, self-teaching himself everything he could, which anybody who knows him would tell you is a lot! Additionally, he was always ready with a funny quote or joke from George Carlin, to share his wonderful (and sometimes dark) sense of humor!!
Mike was preceded by his grandparents Bud and Joann Preller on his mom’s side, and Bob and Margot LaFayette on his father’s side. He is survived by his parents Mary and Scott as well as both sisters, Wendy and Margo. His extended family/best friends include Dusty Brown, Kevin Heinle, Amber Malenovsky, and his boxer/pitbull dog Molly who were all near and dear to him.
Our entire family would like to extend a very special thanks to all of his doctors, nurses, specialists, social workers, and care teams who have enriched the quality of Mike’s life for all these years. We are also deeply grateful for all of the prayers and acts of kindness, both most recently, as well as the love that has given him a life as long and full as it was. With Cystic Fibrosis, Mike wasn’t supposed to make it past age 15. We are so lucky that Mike was a fighter and we got to have him in our lives as long as we did.
Some of Michael’s organs are being donated to science for further research to help others suffering with CF. We know Mike would want to help anyone he could with this disease, especially kids. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to our GoFundMe account. Search “Help Michael LaFayette Fight For His Life in ICU”
