Michael Scott Sand passed away unexpectedly on October 15, 2020. Bernard Sand and Myrna Perkins welcomed Mike into the world on July 12, 1962 in Malta, MT.
Mike grew up in Miles City graduating from Custer County District High School in 1980. He then attended MCC for two years transferring to MSU Bozeman graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance/Marketing.
Following college, Mike’s job with ShopKo took him to Great Falls, Pocatello, Billings and Rapid City. He then worked for the US Investigating Service before relocating to Miles City in 2013. Mike was currently working at McDonalds. Throughout these years, his two sons were born – Anthony (Tony) Sand on June 8, 1994 and Mitchell (Mitch) Sand on November 15, 2001. Mike loved his sons.
Mike enjoyed fishing, playing golf and darts but his passion was bowling. He worked at Recreation Lanes, bowled in the Junior League every Saturday morning and continued playing league and tournaments into his adulthood. Mike was a good bowler and we think he had eight perfect 300 games.
Mike is survived by his sons, Tony (Abby) Sand, Great Falls and Mitch Sand, Rapid City/Bismarck. He also survived by his parents, Myrna and JR Perkins, sister, Sharla (Paul) Helland, nephews, Jason (Madison M, Aaliyah, Aamaya and Rowan) Helland and Aaron (Brooke and Merik) Helland, niece, Kara (Richard) Moen, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his father-Bernie Sand, sister-Paula Sand Harris, grandparents-Joseph & Gladys Lake and Tony & Dorthea Sand and his two pups, Bristol and Vegas.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, October 20th at 1:00 pm at the Custer County Cemetery. No public reception will be held.
Your gift of thoughts and prayers in lieu of sending flowers would be greatly appreciated. If you choose to remember Mike, memorials can be made to Dog Tag Buddies in Billings, First Presbyterian Church Miles City or your favorite charity.

Mikw was a wonderful and respected member of the team at Miles City Mcdonalds . He left very big shoes for someone to fill. Not likely to happen real soon. He is going to be missed not just for what he contributed but more important for what he was. The entire staff is grieving and in shock over his passing. We all pray for peace and comfort among his loved ones and many close friends over this sudden and unexpected loss. We wish Mike a quick trip on his way to join the angels.
tea entire team

First I’m so sorry to the family. Mike was a great person to work with we did have some fun at Shopko in the good old days. We also had a blast at Mark and my apartment in Bozeman. Great guy and alot of fun I’ll never forget that smirk he would get on his face when we were giving people a hard time he always had that twinkle in his eye and that smile. See you on the other side my friend.
