In Memory Of

Michael T. McMahon

Michael Thomas McMahon, a talented, capable, intelligent and fun loving man was born in Helena to his loving parents, Gene and Peggy McMahon on December 20, 1963 and died on May 17, 2010 in the arms of our Lord and Savior. Mike was the third of four children. He shared many memories on Jackson Street with sisters; Maureen and Margie and brother Jim.

Mike has a brick with his name on it in front of the Central School, earned a Helena High School diploma in 1982, and his post secondary degrees from the University of Montana in 1986 and 1990. Mike loved sports and he shined on the baseball diamond, the football field, and the basketball court. He developed many lasting friendships and memories because of these opportunities. A favorite memory was the winning touchdowns he ran in during the cross-town rival games against Capital in a come from behind win. Mike was fond of saying "Number 22 in your program number 1 in your heart."

Prior to completing his MBA, Mike worked as a store manager for Sherwin Williams, both in Helena and Denver. While studying for his MBA, Mike met Shannon, the special and beautiful daughter of Vinnie and Shirley Velk of Havre, Montana. Mike and Shannon were married at the Cathedral of St. Helena on June 6, 1992. Mike purchased 20 acres of land on Helenas south hills and with the fantastic help of his dad, Gene, he worked to build the home that he shared with Shannon and their children. Mike shared his December 20th birthday with his first child, Kaitlin Nicole, who was born in 1995. His son Brian Anthony was born on March 15, 1999.

In 1990 Mike began working for the Montana Department of Transportation and later transferred to the Property and Supply Division. He also worked for Touch America and later, after receiving his Professional Management Certificate, he worked as a senior project management consultant for Sabot Technologies.Along with his knack for home building and handy work, Mike was a avid golfer, hunter, skier, fisherman and rabid University of Montana Griz fan. Go Griz!

He is survived by his wife Shannon and children Kaitlin and Brian; his parents, Gene and Peggy McMahon (Helena); in-laws Vinnie and Shirley Velk (Havre); siblings, Jim (Whitefish), Margie (Helena), Maureen and spouse Randy Mannix (Helmville), and their children Neil, Joe, and Danny, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, Pat and Madge McMahon, Aunt Tricia Milewski and Tony and Margaret Zugel; Uncle Larry, Aunt Jeanne, and cousin David Zugel.

Visitation will continue at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home through Monday, May 24 until 4 p.m. A vigil service will be held Monday, May 24, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. with the Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at 10:00 a.m., both at the Cathedral of St. Helena. Pallbearers for the service will be Mike's brother Jim; brother-in-law Randy Mannix; cousins Jim, Kevin, and Tim McMahon; friends Gene Walborn, Alan Hulse and Steve Austin.
