In Memory Of

Michael Thomas O’Shea, age 89 of Miles City.

December 31, 1929 – July 18, 2019

Michael Thomas O’Shea Jr., 89, of Miles City, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 18, 2019, at Holy Rosary Healthcare in Miles City.

Michael Thomas O’Shea Jr. was born at home on December 31, 1929 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was the sixth child born to Michael Thomas O’Shea and Celina (Babineau) O’Shea. Michael graduated from Belmont High School in Los Angeles CA in 1948 and entered the United States Air Force after attending college in Los Angeles in 1950. He served 21 years in the USAF earning the rank of Master Sergeant. He served at several duty stations around the U.S. and around the world. He had various duty stations starting with Lacklin AFB, Greenland, Greenville, SC, Waco, TX, Rheinmein AFB in Germany, Eglin AFB in Ft Walton Beach,FL, Tachikawa, Japan, Donaldson AFB, Robins AFB, GA where he retired after.

He married Anne Graves at Stoners Grove Baptist Church in Southmont, NC in 1956. Anne had two children, Glenn and Rhonda. He lovingly took on the father role and to this marriage came along Michael Jeffrey. They were married for 18 years, and he lovingly took care of her when she was diagnosed with cancer and passed away in 1974. Mike met Frances Ramsay Florain at a Parents without Partners St. Patrick’s Day Party in 1974 in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Fran had been widowed for two years and had just moved back to the States. Mike made it clear from the first date that they were going to be married. Along with Fran, came two step-daughters and a very energetic two-year-old named David. They moved north to Fran’s hometown of Miles City, MT where he settled in nicely. He became a business owner of O’Shea Appliance Center, County Commissioner of Custer County for four years and devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He never lost his faith in God and had a prayer list so many people he loved and needed help. He was an active member in many community organizations. He retired from his appliance business in 1992 and volunteered at Holy Rosary Hospital and RSVP. Mike was a wonderful husband, father, caregiver and a man of prayer.  After years of happiness with his second wife, he nursed her back to health through two strokes. He was a caregiver up to the very end of his life with Fran as well and together they celebrated there 47 wedding anniversary on July 6. One of Mike’s last instructions to David was “go take care of your Mother”. There is no doubt that everyone that was in his life was enriched.

He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Thomas O’Shea Sr., mother Celina Babineau O’Shea, his siblings, Thomas O’Shea, Lorin O’Shea, Carol Shumer, Bobbie O’Shea and Peggy Schwab. He is also preceded in death by his first wife, Ann Graves O’Shea.

He is survived by his wife Frances O’Shea, three children, Glenn O’Shea of Southmont, NC, Rhonda O’Shea of Rockvale, TN, Michael Jeffrey O’Shea of Halifax, VA; two step-daughters, Debra Duus and Myra Florian both Panama City, FL and a step-son, David Florian of Miles City. His grandchildren, Noelle O’Shea, Holley Dauler, Michael J. O’Shea, II., Rebekah O’Shea Granger, Jaimie, Christopher, Courtney O’Shea. Eric Gilliam, Shane Gilliam and Andrea Zirkle. He also has 8 great grandchildren.
