Michel Geurin, 61, of Miles City left this world to be with Jesus on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 after a short and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Carlus Michel Ray Geurin on October 24, 1947; the oldest child of Mae (Callahan) and Carlus Arland Geurin. He was raised with his younger sister, Patricia, in Texas, Arkansas and California. His mother died when he was 10 years old and his aunt Louise (Callahan) Buckner became his parent. Mike came to Montana in the summer of 1965 with his aunt and settled in Forsyth, MT. He worked as a roughneck in the oil fields around Broadus and traveled with Northwest Bridge and Tank repairing and servicing water towers into the early 1970s. He married Dorie Draper on July 9, 1971 and went to work in Colstrip for Bechtel, Inc in 1973 building the existing power plants. He became the proud parent of one daughter, Olivia, on July 15, 1977. He resided in Colstrip until 1981 when he retired due to a brain injury. Mike has resided at Homestead Assisted Living for the last six years with his special friends Bonnie Scott, Brian and Jennifer Cain. He considered his friends there to be extended family and he valued his life with them.
Mike loved the outdoors for hunting and fishing and enjoyed traveling on a motorcycle. He loved life and took every opportunity to bring a smile to each person he met. He had a great sense of humor and he laughed to the very last hours of his life. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his father Carlus Geurin; his mother Mae Geurin; his sister Patricia Bruce; his aunt Louise (Buckner) Raisl; his step brother Billy Buckner; his uncle James Callahan; his uncle Bud Callahan.
Mike is survived by his daughter, Olivia (Mike) Sample of Colstrip, his nephew James Geurin of Miles City and his nephew Scott Bruce of California and niece Jennifer Duzan of California. Grandchildren: Tiyana, Bailey, Tysen, Cohen, and Keaton Sample all of Colstrip and great nieces Hailey Geurin of Minneapolis MN, Dawn Geurin of Malta, and Presley Geurin of Miles City.
