Michelle Annette (Lang) Johnston, 62, was born on December 22, 1956, to Olive E. (Anton) and Michael E. Lang of Worthington, Minnesota.
Michelle went to her Lord on Monday, October 7, 2019, at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings, Montana. She had been living in Miles City, MT, with her husband, Greg Johnston.
Michelle was raised in Worthington and attended the Worthington schools. Her parents owned Michael’s Restaurant, and she loved eating and working there. Michelle was an excellent waitress or wherever they needed her help. In school, she excelled in music, playedpiano and sang in choir, played flute in band; and organ for Sunday service in her church. After graduating from Worthington High School, she went on to the Junior College to begin her undergraduate work in Broadcast Journalism. She also attended Augustanain Sioux Falls and the University of Wisconsin, LaCrosse.
In 1976, Michelle began working at KELO-TV in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She advanced up to Associate Producer and won an ADDY Award for her work.
In 1985, she married Greg Johnston, a stockbroker, in Sioux Falls. They moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he was employed at E.F. Hutton. In 1989, they moved to Miles City, Montana, to work as a team and started the Investment Center in stockbroking.Michelle was in charge of the bookkeeping. Her stellar books were used to demonstrate to others how to do it right.
While in Miles City, Michelle enjoyed fishing, tennis and golf; and was great in all three. For 22 years, she judged the parade for the Bucking Horse Days. Michelle was on the Board of Directors for the Chamber of Commerce and the Country Club. Her love ofgardening was apparent with all her lovely rose bushes. Anyone who heard her sing “The Rose” never forgot her beautiful alto voice.
Michelle is survived by her husband, Greg, of Miles City, MT; one brother, Larry Lang of Worthington; and one sister, Linda Lang, Worthington. Michelle is preceded in death by her parents, Olive and Michael Lang; and her mother- and father-in-law, Anmae andMarion Johnston. Most recently she had to say goodbye to their dog, “Charlie,” named after her grandpa, Charlie Anton.
Memorial service will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, located at 1400 – 4th Avenue in Worthington. Call (507-372-2939) for more information.
