Eli I’m so sorry to hear about the passing of your father. He was a very nice man, and always had a smile on his face and something nice to say about everyone he knew. We enjoyed talking, golfing together and having a few beers after we were through. I’m really going to miss him a lot. Rest in peace my friend……

Very sorry to hear about Mike Maurina. He was one of my boys in high school. We ran around, made a little mischief, though nothing serious. He had a great spirit, sense of humor and sense of adventure. I tried a couple times to reconnect with him over the last many years, but for whatever reason, it never came through. On behalf of his Barron High School friends and family, God bless Eli and the Maurina family. We lost a solid human being and an important part of many of our lives.

Mike or Chow, as we affectionately called him was a childhood friend and a member of my graduating class from Barron High School. We all have wonderful memories and stories of Mike and mourn his loss.
Sincerest condolences to your family on behalf of the Class of 1977.

I was a classmate who played high school football with Mike. We had a drill where I would pick him up and carry him over my shoulder for maybe about ten yards. I think he was surprised I could pick him up, plus he didn’t like having his feet off the ground and being carried.

I have not seen him since we graduated in 1977, but I know he was a good man, who left this life far too soon. Please except my condolences.

Mike, Chow was a good high school buddy. He had the best wall of speakers that would play Ted Nugget in his bedroom, and was a fun place to hang out together. We all met there, before prom with our dates. Lots of fun on the football bus too.
It was great to see him at the class reunion in Rice Lake and catch up. He will be missed. Rob Rhodes

I met Mike at about 5-6 years old. The Maurina family lived 1-block from our family in Barron WI. Mike and I were childhood best friends and remained friends up and through college at UW Stout. Lots of precious memories… My brother Randy and Tom were also good friends.

All the neighborhood kids used to play football and other games at the ”Maurina Stadium”. Mike and Tom would always play and were also Hosts for all of the games. Bill and Nancy were so tolerant of all the kids running around their yard, garage, and sometimes house. Lots of scraped knees and elbows but nothing too bad for all the exciting close games and over-times played there.

Mike and I rode our bicycles (and later mini-bikes) everywhere. One time we were riding around in a church parking lot with our bicycles tied together with a rope. That ended with Mike crashing and breaking one of his arms. Believe it or not, Mike rode his bike home with a broken arm. This was one of several broken arms and legs that Mike endured over his younger years. Mike broke a leg while snow skiing once

Mike and I learned to play golf together and golfed every summer on “Kids Day” at our 9-hole Barron golf course. We played hundreds of rounds of golf together over the years. Mike was competitive so we always had a little bet going.

Mike was quite a card player. We used to play cards by the hours. He taught me and my brothers games like Bridge, Pinochle, and Gin Rummy.

Mike and I were in Boy Scouting and spent many Summer Camps, canoeing trips, and other Scout activities together. We were always tent mates and earned many BSA merit badges together. I remember hauling Mike in from the lake for Lifesaving merit badge while he was greased with tanning lotion and struggled as hard as he could to make it realistic (we both nearly drowned😊).

Chow and I worked together for several summers while in college for a local Beer Distributor. We both could honestly say that we were in almost every bar in NW Wisconsin 😊 In doing so, we delivered tens of thousands of cases and barrels of beer. It was the toughest & most fun job that either of us probably ever had. Just tons of great memories for those summers.

It is sad to hear of Mike’s passing. Mike was always an easy going guy. A true friend and great personality. He always had a friendly smile and sense of humor. He was a hard worker with perseverance. He will be greatly missed. My sincere condolences to the family. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Mike or Chow as he was known to his Barron friends, was kind and kept us laughing. We had a lot of fun in high school, college and skiing at Hardscrabble. Those are memories of him I will treasure. It is sad that Mike left us too soon. My condolences to the Maurina family. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
