Mildred (Millie) Wheeler Ayers passed away Monday evening June 10, 2019, six days after her 93rd birthday. She was residing at E Dene Moore Care Center in Rifle, Colorado.
Millie was born on June 4, 1926 in Mildred, Montana to Alvie Wheeler and Bertha Heinz Wheeler. She was the second of her 9 siblings. So much of her time was spent helping with the daily chores of a large family.
Millie married Bernard Ayers after he returned from the war in 1944. They lived there until 1961 when they moved to Terry so they could be closer to the high school. Millie enjoyed raising her chickens, cows and bum lambs. She always had a prize garden.
Millie and Bernard had five children. Her granddaughter Kathy spent much of her early years with her so was also thought of as a daughter. Her children were her life. She did many things for them. She gave up much so they could have what she thought they needed. She was proud of her daughters for the educations that they were able to get. She was proud of her sons for the jobs they pursued. Her children were able to give back to her in later years with hopes it made up for what she gave up while she was raising them. She was well loved by her family.
The family moved to Miles City in 1967 so the boys could go to church school. Millie worked for awhile at the Olive Hotel and then went to work at the Custer County Rest Home. She worked there until she retired. She divorced during this time.
Millie stayed in her home until her health was such that she couldn’t care for herself anymore. She lived in some assisted living homes in Miles City until she moved to Colorado to be with her daughter Elaine and son Douglas. She spent the last few years of her life living at the E Dene Moore Care Center where she was loved and well taken care of.
Millie is survived by all of her children; Elaine (Ron) of Parachute CO, Susan (Howard) of Miles City, Steven of Miles City, Jeff (Jennifer) of New Mexico, Douglas of Parachute CO, five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, 2 sisters (Fay & Jessie) and 1 brother Monte, and many nieces and nephews. Those that preceded her in death were her parents and 4 sisters (Elsie, Midge, Eva, Sharon), 2 brothers (Lloyd and Robert).
A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 14, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Custer County Cemetery in Miles City. Condolences to the family may be sent by visiting www.stevensonandsons.com.

My sincere sympathy goes out to the family of Mildred. Be assured of God’s promise that he will comfort you during your grief (2 Corinthians 1:3 & 4). Jesus foretold a hope that one day we will see our loved ones again happy and healthy, at John 5:28 & 29 he said, “all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.” I pray this promise along with loving memories fill your heart with comfort and peace.
