Mildred “Grandma” Battin passed away on August 28, 2025.
Mildred was born during a winter storm on February 22, 1938. She was born to Mary and Holger Jensen in Froid, MT. She worked on the family farm alongside her six sisters. When she was 14, they moved to Wolf Point, where she graduated high school in 1957.
On June 10, 1957, she married Paul Battin and became an Air Force wife. They moved to Mountain Home, Idaho, where they welcomed their first child, Virgil. They were stationed in Berkshire, England, for four years. During those four years, they welcomed two more children, Laura and David. They moved back to Wolf Point after Paul was discharged in June 1962. There they welcomed two more children, Mary and Jim. In April 1983, they adopted their final child, Belinda.
She lived in many places—Lakeland, Florida; Plentywood; Glasgow; and Circle—before they made Miles City home in 1984. She worked at the Red Rock Hotel, cleaned houses, and had her own daycare.
Mildred’s greatest joy was being a grandma. Not only was she an amazing grandma to her own grandchildren, but also to anyone who came around. She loved participating in all the water fights, snowball fights, and every good game of rummy. She was the type of grandma that would have a bucket of water balloons sitting by her chair, waiting for someone to walk through the door. Yes, she had a good throw.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Paul. Parents Mary & Holger Jensen. Sisters: Lois Damm, Lillian Burkland, Laura Jeffers, Helen Kirkegard, and Bonnie Good.
Survived by her 6 children: Virgil (Becky), Laura (Gary), David, Mary, Jim and Belinda (Justin). Grandchildren: Andrew (Anastasia) & Amanda Battin. Skyler & Tanner Casillas. Gabby (Danny) VanMaanen. Dylan & Jaiden Gibson. Great-grandchildren: Karsyn, Emersyn & Wyatt VanMaanen and Evie and a sister Jean Gartside.
