Mildred Clair Washington, age 80, of Broadus, Montana left this world on Sunday, January 18, 2004 at the Powder River Manor in Broadus surrounded by her family and loved one's.
Mildred was born in August 25, 1923, in Broadus and lived until she was 17 on a ranch near Belle Creek. Mildred rode horses and helped with ranch work during her younger years. Mildred went to high school in Broadus and then married her life long mate, Robert Washington on May 24, 1941. They spent their first year on the Washington ranch living in a sheep wagon-herding sheep. Mildred and Bob ranched until 1972 when they moved into Broadus. Mildred and Bob celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2001. Mildred became involved in bowling and golf. She loved to dance, read, work crossword puzzles, and play cards. Rheumatoid arthritis curtailed many of her activities in her last years but she never lost her quick mind and humor.
Mildred is survived by two sons: J.O. Washington of Broadus, MT; and Robert Washington Jr. of Miles City, MT; three daughters: Martha Washington of Anchorage, AK; Charmaine Johnson of Broadus, MT; and Laurie Martin of Cheyenne, WY; seven grandchildren: Janelle Moon, Del Ackerman, Tonya Borowski, Bill Dobbs, Bob Dobbs, John Dobbs, and Shari Everson and seven great grandchildren: Brittany Dobbs, Bailey Dobbs, Wyatt Dobbs, Gerald Dobbs, Jonathon Dobbs, Jonathon David Dobbs, and Alex Everson; a sister, Marion Taylor (Lynne) of Shephard, MT; and a brother Jack Laurie of Miles City, MT. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Michael Scott Washington, and two brothers: Donald Laurie and Robert Laurie.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 20, 2004 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Broadus. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Broadus. Interment will follow in the Valley View Cemetery in Broadus.
