Mildred Eleanor (Tew) Jensen took the wings of the morning and flew to her heavenly home to be with Jesus, early Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 2012, just a week after her 96th birthday.
Mildred was born near Peterson, Minnesota on November 14, 1916, to Maurice and Hilda Tew. In 1919, she homesteaded with her parents near the Rock Creek area of McCone Co. in Montana, where she spent her youth. She married Jakob Jensen, a homesteader from the McGuire Creek area, in 1937. Shortly thereafter, they bought a farm near Circle, MT. where they raised their eight children.
Mildred became a widow in 1958 and her eldest son, Jerry, was killed in a car wreck on Mother’s Day, less than a year later. Times were tough, but the Lord helped her press on. And for about the next 20 years, she worked very hard at numerous jobs to support her family. She was a babysitter, a store clerk, a kitchen assistant, a hospital cook, and lastly, a clerk at the county treasurer’s office until she retired because of failing health.
Mildred has been known as “Gramma Jensen”, or as she signed her birthday cards, simply “Gram J”, for quite a while now. She was able to stay in her own home until June of this year. She had a twinkle in her blue eyes and a quick wit. She loved a good joke and was quick to laugh at others or even at herself, as she did so many times at the retelling of her trip to Frosty’s on that fateful day when the ice-cream machine broke down. Most of all she loved her family and lived for them. She thoroughly enjoyed Christmas and gift giving and insisted on giving a gift to each family member, which was no small undertaking. She so appreciated family gatherings, with good food, – “just a little piece of each” kind of pie- and everyone playing music. (Indeed, the kids, chaos, & caroling of the Jensen family Christmas Eve celebrations will long live in the hearts & minds of her children & grandchildren.) She was still singing along at her 96th birthday party, just a few days ago.
Mildred leaves behind one sister, Marjorie (Bill) Breitbach, and seven children: Neil (Ellen) Jensen, Bob (Diana) Jensen, Jack (Marsha) Jensen, Karen (Dennis) Wolff, Anne Rose, Lela (Dave) Sigmundstad, and Jim (Vicky) Jensen. She was also blessed with 24 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends. Preceding her in death are: her parents; her husband, Jake; her son, Jerry; her brothers: Jim & Don; her sister, Phyllis; infant sisters, Margaret & Marilyn; and her daughter-in-law, Cheryl. Mildred will be greatly missed by those who love her, and the family gatherings will not be the same without her. But, we look forward to seeing her again on the other side.

We are sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. I have fond memories of many family gatherings with my family and the Jensens. I always enjoyed your mom and her sense of humor and have marveled at her raising such a large family by herself. Our sympathies and prayers are with you all at this sad time.

We are sorry to know that your Mom and “Gramma Jensen” has passed away. I will never forget all the great times all of us had. What an inspiration she was to all of us. Though we will miss her, we can be assured of where she is and we can “Celebrate the Wonderful Life” she had. Look forward to visiting and reminiscing with all of this weekend. Prayers, Thoughts and God’s Blessings be with You All.

To the Jensen Family,
Grandma Jensen was so so special to me. We shared many great moments when she visited California. Nothing you could say to her phased her, she always made me feel like it was just a part of life. We often chatted on the phone about whatever came to mind.
God Bless her for bringing so much happinness to me.
Love You Lots My Friend!
