On Tuesday January 10, 2023 Mildred “Milly” Reierson was called to her eternal home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the age of 85 at Holy Rosary Healthcare in Miles City, Montana after suffering a severe stroke.
Born to Ida and Warren Ryckman on March 26, 1937, the youngest of seven, she joined two brothers; Bud and Warreny and four sisters; Hazel, Myrtle, Evelyn, and Violet. She grew up on the family farm in the rural Pollack, SD area where she would attend school and graduate in 1955. She went on to get her teacher certificate and taught two years in country schools before meeting the love of her life at the roller skating rink in Linton, ND. He, a handsome young man by the name of Russell Reierson and this was the beginning of their journey through life together. They were married June 7, 1957 and would spend the next 65 plus years together.
To this union was born four children; Fredrick Warren, Martin Alan, Patricia Lynn, and Lori Anne whom she would spend the rest of her life devoted to raising, loving, and protecting. They moved their young family from North Dakota to Montana and eventually ended up in Rosebud, MT in 1976.
After retirement they would split their time between Rosebud and Yuma, Arizona where they made new friends and reunited with old friends and family. They were able to enjoy this lifestyle for many years, even right up to the time of her passing.
When Milly became a grandma, her life took on a whole new meaning. She was an awesome hands-on grandma to six “could do no wrong” grandchildren. Milly loved her children and grandchildren fiercely – maybe to a fault.
Milly enjoyed many hobbies, including sewing needlepoint, bowling, camping, hunting, refinishing furniture, and watching her children and grandchildren’s sporting events. There was not a referee in the country that did not know or fear Milly Reierson.
Milly’s true passion was FISHING and she passed the love of the sport down to her family. She could sit on a boat or on a riverbank for hours, rain or shine, fish biting or not. The woman loved to fish! Her notoriety as a fisherman became solidified when, after many years of trying, she and her fishing partner/son took second place at Fort Peck’s Governor’s Cup at the age of 73. Her son and grandson would see to it that she would pursue this passion until she was no longer able to get in the boat at the age of 84.
Her second loves were rummage-saling and flea markets. She was always in search of the perfect bargain in which her family would be the lucky recipients of “stuff they didn’t need” but tried to appreciate.
She is survived by her husband Russell of 65 years, sons Fred Reierson, Martin (Lori Jean) Reierson, daughters Patti (Brad) Bredeson, Lori (Eric) Doeden, grandchildren Brookes (Jennifer) Reierson, Blake Reierson, Scarlet (Dan) Schwendtner, Philip (Liz) Reierson, Bridger Doeden, Boone Doeden, and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her many loved ones and is now reunited and celebrating with them in her eternal home.
Milly loved fiercely and was loved in return by her family. If so desired, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice in Milly’s honor.

Russ and family,
Words cannot express the loss of such an amazing lady. In over 40 years of knowing Millie I always looked forward to visiting with her. Her distinct laughter was contagious. Being friends with her daughter Patti in high school, Millie put up with a lot of our shenanigans, chuckle and shake her head. She was the voice in the bleachers at all of her kids’ sporting events that I always enjoyed listening to. She loved her family with her whole being and it showed! I will truly miss her! May God give comfort and strength to her family today and in the days ahead.
Janice and Dean Smith says
Prayers and thoughts go out to the wonderful family Millie so cherished. I have wonderful memories of Milie that go back to 1951 when I met her in high school. Her and I managed to get into a little mischief now and then. After high school we decided to go to Minneapolis and find a job. Which we successfully did. There was never a dull moment . She loved to sing and I know she’s singing with the angels in heaven. We spent many nights playing cards with friends we met through Millie and Russell when we lived in Yuma. You’re right she was one of a kind with a heart of gold. What a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Our hearts and condolences go out to Russell which we know are very difficult times for him. Millie I’m going to miss our phone conversations we had so often and all the fun times. God Bless you

To all of Milly’s family, she was one of my fondest people of my childhood in Rosebud! I adored and always was so excited to spend time with Lori and Patti and I can hear Milly’s beautiful laughter and strong unique voice. She was so kind and fun to be around, but the most special memories I have were when Milly would play piano and sing….Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain was one of my favorites. I’m so sorry to hear of her passing…she had a beautiful life with Russ and all of you! 💞

Aunt Milly;s place was a great Stop-over place when Mom and I traveled the highways and byways of our country. Mom was Myrtle Ryckman (Patterson), Milly’s oldest sister. It seems all of our family were very talented and adventurous, in one way or another. We praise the Lord that most of us were and are a family who belongs to Christ the Lord , and that those who have gone before are in His presence now, and enjoying Eternal Life together with the One Who Saves.
Norma A Vincent says
“O Death, where is they sting? O grave, where is thy victory?….But thanks be unto God, Who gives us the victory through Jesus Christ.” I Corinthians 15…..”In a moment, in the twinkling of an eys, we shall all be changed…at the last trumpet—-for the trumpet will sound,….the dead in Christ shall be raised imperishable, and …….so shall we ever be with the Lord.” (Parts of I corinthians 15).
Norma A Vincent says
Goodbye, Aunt Milly, until we meet again with our Lord and those in Him who are now with you, also.
Anne Young says
