Mildred Mooney, age 86, of Gillette, Wyoming, died Thursday, December 11, 2003 at the Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Gillette, Wyoming of natural causes.
Mildred Alvera Mooney was born on November 11, 1917 in Davenport, Nebraska to Edward E. and Marguerite (Lowrey) Burr. In 1918, Mildreds family moved to Rozet, Wyoming to the family farm. She was raised and educated in Rozet and graduated from high school in 1934. After graduation she went to normal school and received her Normal Training Certificate in 1935. On June 26, 1935, she married Gordon B. Mooney in Gillette, Wyoming. They made their home on the Mooney Ranch west of Gillette. They later divorced. She loved the ranch and enjoyed the livestock and the calving season. Her favorite hobbies were spending time with her cat, growing flowers, listening to music and dancing. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. In the past she had been a volunteer at the Campbell County Memorial Hospital and was a Campbell County 4-H sewing leader. During her working life Mildred was employed by various clothing stores in Gillette.
Mildred is survived by one daughter Margaret Ann Hladky; two sons Allen Mooney and Dan Mooney, all of Gillette, Wyoming; one sister Evelyn Fisher of Sheridan, Wyoming; five brothers Charles Burr of Sheridan, Wyoming, Leslie Burr of Gillette, Wyoming, Walter Burr of Omaha, Nebraska, Kenneth Burr of Upton, Wyoming and Curtis Burr of Mesa, Arizona; eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one son John Edward Mooney in 1975.
Memorial services for Mildred Mooney will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 16, 2003 at the First Presbyterian Church in Gillette, Wyoming with Pastor Joel Wright officiating. Inurnment will follow at Gillettes Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to benefit the Heptner Oncology Unit at the Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette, Wyoming or a charity of the donors choice. Donations may be sent in care of the Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home at 210 W. 5th St., Gillette, Wyoming 82716.
