Minnie Muriel Westover, 88, of Clancy, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2010 at St. Peters Hospital with her children and grandchildren by her side.
Muriel, born January 18, 1922 in Shelbina, Missouri, was the fourth child of Laverne and Clara (Pike) Johnson. The family moved to Montana in the late 1920s. Muriel attended school at Lakeside, Helena and Clancy. She met the love of her life, Walter A. Westover, and they married in 1938. Walter and Muriel were blessed with five children: Minnie Edna, Gene, Arlieta, Carolyn and Lorretta.Muriel worked for several years at the Parrot Confectionary in Helena. She enjoyed playing cards, traveling, gardening, crocheting, quilting, camping, fishing, boating, and spending time with friends and family. She was always ready for a good game of cards. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 10010 Womens Auxiliary in East Helena; Helena Senior Citizens; Rebakah Lodge #5, and the Clancy Methodist Church.
Muriel was preceded in death by her parents, Laverne and Edna; husband, Walter; sister, Lavera Lagle; brothers, Olin and Edwin Johnson; son, Gene; daughter, Minnie Edna; son-in-law, Jerome Woodward and grandson, Walter Woodward.
Left to celebrate her life are daughters, Arlieta (Don) Holshue, Carolyn Woodward, and Lorretta (Rick) Strobel; daughter-in-law, Mary Westover; sisters, Clara Johnson Robinson, Purita Gorda, FL and Oline Albright, St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, Kim (JK) Weiss, Tempe, AZ, Kevin (Natalie) Holshue, Las Vegas, NV, Kelly (Diana) Holshue, Helena, MT, Ken Holshue, Richland, WA, Myrle (Mike) Cunis, Ashland, MA, Kelley Woodward, Rapid City, SD, Chine Strobel, Clancy, MT, Rick (Kassi) Strobel, Helena, MT and Oliver Westover, Helena, MT; fourteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home on Thursday, June 3. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, June 4 at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Please join the family for a reception to be held afterward at the VFW 10010, 113 W. Main St. East Helena.
