In Memory Of

Mert Burman Schlautmann, age 85, of Wibaux

November 3, 1935 – October 9, 2021

Mert Casey Burman Schlautmann, age 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at the Wibaux County Nursing Home.

Mert was born on November 3, 1935 near Wibaux, MT. She grew up on the Casey family ranch East of Glendive with her 3 brothers and 2 sisters. She enjoyed every aspect of living on the ranch. Mom and her dad shared a love of cats that was obvious to anyone that knew her.

On June 14, 1952 mom married Sonny Burman in Glendive, MT. To this union there were six children born: Kathy (Tom), Dean, Jacki, Donna (Roger), Brad (Roxanne), Rod (Mandy). Mom was blessed with 15 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Mert and Les Connell spent 15 years together on the Connell Ranch North of Medora. She had a love for horses and cattle. She raised registered Texas Longhorns, which she was very proud of. Royal Spice was a 4 year old cow that mom raised and sold at the Denver Stock Show for $10,500. She was very proud of that.

In 1994, Mert married Louis Schlautmann in Miles City, MT. They lived on the Circle 3 Ranch in Birney, MT before retiring to South Heart, ND in 1997.

Mert was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Susan Casey, her son Dean, her siblings Delbert, Fern, Andy, Jr. and Kate, her first husband Sonny and Les Connell.

Mert made her children who they are today by enforcing work ethics, respect and integrity. Her faith and family meant everything to her. In her last days she said that, “Jesus is gonna help me feed my horses.”

We love you mom. We will see you again.
