On the evening of November 27, 2016, Nannette Inez Morgan passed away peacefully at her home. Nannette was 64 years old.
Nannette was born November 21, 1952 in Miles City, MT, to E.G. “Doc” Balsam and Loretta “Det” Waddell Balsam. She was their fifth child and youngest daughter.
Nannette was passionate about horses, and her favorite memories were of her family, and the horses they loved. At the age of 6, Nannette was given her first horse, “Friend O’ Mine”, by Johnny Hamilton, a friend of the family. She spent countless days with Johnny, who helped Nannette raise and train her beloved “Honey”. She loved Johnny so much that one night she secretly cut off all of her hair and slicked it back with Brylozeem so that she would look just like him, and from then on she was known as “Lil Johnny” and he was “Big Johnny”. Nannette passed on her love of horses and animals to her children.
Nannette attended Custer County District High School. After high school, Nannette attended college at Montana State University, Bozeman. She received her Baccalaureate in Nursing in December of 1975. In Billings, MT Nannette worked as a nurse at Deaconess Hospital and St. Vincent’s Hospital. She then came back to Miles City to be with her family where she worked in surgery for 15 years at Holy Rosary Hospital. After this, she began caring for her mother, and then provided care for countless other patients and their families. Her career was marked by her endless compassion, and her devotion to praying for and helping her patients and their families’ during some of life’s most challenging moments.
On November 2nd, 1984 Nannette married Richard Keith Morgan. Together they raised their three children, Brianne, Skylar, and Mikaela whom she always said were the greatest blessings of her life. Other than the birth of her children, the happiest days of her life included: the marriage of Skylar Morgan and Stephanie Aron Morgan on June 18, 2011 and the birth of their son, her first grandchild, Doc Henry Morgan on March 26th, 2014; the wedding of Mikaela and Coy Sheets on June 30th, 2012 followed by the birth of their twin girls, Avery Annette and Elsie Leona Sheets whom lovingly called her “Gramma Kitty”; and the engagement of Brianne Morgan to Darren Ferahyan on December 1, 2014.
Nannette will be remembered for her love for Jesus, her grace, her warmth, and her strength. She had such an incredibly kind and generous spirit.
We, the family are happy to know that she is in Heaven with her parents, and all of those she loved who went before her. That she is in the arms of her Savior, in a place where there is no more pain and suffering, only joy.
Nannette treasured her relationships with her family and friends, and she had an astounding ability to love every person and creature that she ever came into contact with. She devoted her life to her children and to caring for anyone in need.
Nannette is survived by two daughters: Mikaela Sheets and her husband Coy Sheets; Brianne Morgan and her fiancé Darren Ferahyan; her son: Skylar Morgan and his wife Stephanie Aron Morgan. She is also survived by her grandson Doc Henry Morgan; and her granddaughters Avery and Elsie Sheets, her sisters Detta Graham and Barbara Lee, her brothers Bill Balsam and Charlie Balsam, Richard Morgan, numerous beloved nieces and nephews, as well as her two cats, Princess and Miss Boom.
