In Memory Of

Nathan P. Bunke, age 32 formerly of Miles City.

Nathaniel Paul Bunke, a loving son, brother, nephew, cousin & dear friend passed away at the young age of 32 in Bronson, Kansas in June of 2018. Nathan was formerly from and born in Miles City, MT May 9, 1986.

Nathan attended Garfield Elementary School, Washington Middle School, Custer County District High School, Miles Community College and the University of Montana, Missoula earning two degrees in computer science and networking along with several Microsoft certifications.

Nathan had such an inventive and creative nature, such a quick learner that often frustrated others, especially his sisters. Nathan seemed to be a natural at anything. When Nathan & Rachel were children, their mother wanted them both to play piano and signed them up for lessons. As lessons progressed, Rachel worked diligently to learn however Nathan picked it right up even while dreading the lessons.

Nathan would dismantle things simply to learn how they worked & how to put it back together, once a VCR as a young boy. As a child he often used the boxes toys came in rather to mastermind a project or slide down the stairwell on while his sisters often joined.

So loving & caring, Nathan often preferred the sidelines and not the spotlight. His nature and humor however made him the spotlight without him knowing. He enjoyed spending time with family & friends, playing pool, fishing, fixing computers and simply tinkering with electronics; an irreplaceable young man.

Nathan had been living and working in Bronson, Kansas with his good friends Greg & Rheannon Carlson.

Nathan is survived by his father Garry (Joan) Bunke of Billings, MT and his sisters Jennifer, her husband Steve LaFlam of San Antonio, TX, Amber, her husband Josh Nielson of Forsyth, and Rachel May, and her fiancé Don Shepherd of Denver, CO. He is also survived by several loving aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.

Nathan was preceded in death by his Grandparents Paul, Adeline Bunke and Mary Lou Meier, his mother Coleen and far too many other loving and cherished family members to list.

A memorial service will be held Friday, July 20, 2018 at 11:00am at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City, Montana. You are welcome to join the family for a gathering to follow at the Yellowstone Tavern, 3008 Valley Dr E, Miles City, MT. Cremation has taken place. Somehow, I kept hoping that someone had made a mistake, that it really wasn’t Nathan. Nathan was a very special person. Who else but Nathan would just come and sit in my office on April 15th to be certain that we did not have a computer meltdown. For his friendship I feel greatly blessed. Gary, I send my heartfelt condolences to you and your family. As my grandmother said long ago, “It’s not right to bury your children.” She was right then and now.

I was so sad to hear about the death of Nathan. I was his teacher in 5th grade at Garfield and it was such a joy to have him in my class. I will never forget him. His wit, ingenuity and creativity were absolutely wonderful. He could come up with the greatest plans and ideas and had such a great personality helping others to understand the “whys” and “how’s” of what he had done. He loved Science and Math in our subject areas but could also make us see it in other ways that made perfect sense. He was a very special person and I am so happy I had the opportunity to know him. I will not forget him, have wondered what he was doing and where he had gone. I guess he is now back home. I am so sorry for the family and I know how much he will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
