Nellie May (Pitt) Byers was born August 23, 1943, the daughter of Howard and Ethel Louise (Rabenstein) Pitt in Thermopolis, Wyoming. She was raised and educated in Thermopolis, and various schools in Oregon , while traveling with her family between the two states. She loved the family outings in the hills and mountains of Wyoming where her father worked as a ranch hand or sheep herder . Later she shared those experiences and beloved places of her childhoodwith her daughters on various family fishing and camping trips .
Nellie lived in Wyoming and Oregon throughout her life, making many friends along the way. She was very well known for her generous nature and loving heart. Many was the time she would invite someone to her home for holiday dinners so they would not be alone for the holidays , even if she had just met them at the grocery store that day. Nellie loved to have the young missionaries in her home and teach them how to bake her famous bread and mouthwatering pies.
Nellie loved her hobbies and better yet to have as many children around the table as would fit to teach these skills to.She was a favorite at her grandchildren's school on craft day. Her home was the place to hang out for summer sleep overs and winter inner tubing and snowman building, kool aid and hot chocolate included. A day at the the lake with a pickup load of kids was never too much for her .
Nellie worked many types of jobs in her life from waitress, caregiver in nursing homes, telephone operator, and medical office manager, but the one that gave her the most satisfactionwas in home care for the elderly, something she started doing at a young age for her Grandparents. Nellie spent the last years of her life in the home of her eldest daughter Kennie where she was able to spend her time with her grandchildren helping with homework and reading nightly bedtime stories always surrounded by their love. We are forever grateful for their loving care of our sister aunt, mother, grandmother, and friend. We will miss her always .
Nellie is survived by three daughters: Kennie (Daniel) VanLitsenborgh of Gillette, Wyoming; Della (Jason) Bassett of Ridgefield, Washington; Suzanna (Jim) Olsen of Hillsboro, Oregon; eleven grandchildren: Mindy Young, Conni Mae VanLitsenborgh, Daniel VanLitsenborgh, Kimberly VanLitsenborgh all of Gillette, Wyoming; Jason Bassett, Melissa Bassett, Whitney Bassett, and Jordan Bassett all of Ridgefield, Washington; Crystal Brayerton, Christopher Antonisio, and Nicole Robinson all of Hillsborough, Oregon; two great granddaughters: Kailee Nichelle Aughtman and Torin Necciann Evola; three sisters: Bonnie Bell (Paul Henry) Taylor of Portland, Oregon; Rylene Louisa Morgan of Vancouver Wa ; Violet Virginia (Robert E.)
