In Memory Of

Newell Hoverson, age 34, of Jordan

March 17, 1990 – January 17, 2025

On Friday, January 17, 2025, we lost one of the biggest personalities most of us will ever know. Newell Richard Hoverson was born on March 17, 1990, in Miles City, MT. He was the third child and first son of Dan and Kimberly (Limesand) Hoverson. He returned with them to the Van Norman community, east of Jordan, where he was begrudgingly welcomed by older sisters, Nikki and Noell. He soon gained the nickname “Big Guy”, and if we had only known just how accurate that nickname would turn out to be. Newell continued to call Van Norman home for the rest of his life.

He attended the Van Norman Country School for grade school. During that time a younger brother Nathan Bradley joined the mix. As he got older, Newell attended Garfield County High School in Jordan. He spent many hours of those years working on 4-H projects. He started with lambs (sorry, kid, but the secret’s out that you did like them at one point) and later took hogs and eventually steers, starting his obsession with owning “all the cows”. That was also when he discovered football and decided the Minnesota Vikings would be his team. He even ventured to Minneapolis a couple of times so they could let him down in person.

And through all of that there was always Malcolm to wander the creek with, ride bikes back and forth to each other’s houses, and, later, play and talk football.

After finishing high school, he attended “The University of Cow” working briefly for the McDonald Ranch and then for the Ross Ranch. During this time, building his current small herd of cows from childhood became his priority.

Priorities changed when he married the love of his life Rebecca Murnion on May 20, 2016. Little did she know every conversation with community members from then on would start with “Your husband!” Henry Charles joined them in August of 2017 and then, in August of 2021, May Ellen completed their family. Newell spent countless hours with his kids riding along in tractor, feed trucks, semis, and even on the lawn mower. He loved spending time away from his cows fishing with his kids and his friends, playing games (as long as he didn’t lose too often), working cows with neighbors, and visiting with anyone who stood still long enough.

Newell was proceeded in death by his grandparents Richard “Dick” and Dorathea Hoverson, Aunt Susie Limesand, Uncle Rusty Limesand, and cousins Marya Larson and Bryan Gardner.

Newell is survived by his wife Rebecca and children Henry and May of Jordan, MT. Father Dan Hoverson of Jordan, MT. Mother Kim (Kevin) Bradley of Circle, MT. Sisters Nikki (Zander) Heide of Circle, MT and Noell (Aaron) Martinson of Terry, MT and brother Nathan (Kaitlyn) Bradley of Circle, MT. Brothers- and sisters-in-laws Evan (Carson) Murnion, Eric Murnion, Micheal Murnion, Elizabeth Murnion, Lauren Murnion, Patrick Murnion, and James Murnion, all of Jordan, MT. Grandparents Jack and Marlene Limesand of Circle, MT. Mother-in-law Kam (Scott Folda ) Murnion of Bainville, MT and father-in-law Zane (Brit) Murnion of Jordan, MT. Nieces and nephews Carl, Katie, and Alex, Abigail, Bentley, Branston and Harlynn. And so many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and neighbors he counted as family.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday January 28, 2025, at 11:00 A.M., at the Garfield County High School Gym in Jordan, MT.

  30. Cindy Stanton says

    January 22, 2025 at 8:39 pm

To all of Newell’s family, as most of you know, I’m very seldom left speechless, but the loss of Newll has done it. I’ve thought for days about how to express my sorrow for everyone. He was just one of the neatest kids. One of the good guys. I thank him for his friendship with Brady. They shared some really great and really bad times but could always count on each other, no matter how far apart they lived. Newell was always kind to me. And just a gentleman. My momma heart is just hurting for Kim. Because of my faith, I know where he is, and that probably should give everyone comfort. But I also know that we all would rather have him here. I pray that you all find peace and comfort for the rough times ahead.

Sending prayers for all of you that you may feel some measure of comfort, peace, and consolation.

    With sympathy,
    Kim Stanton

  37. Greg Berger says

    January 27, 2025 at 8:30 pm

My sincerest, heartfelt condolences to the entire Hoverson family along with all the friends, neighbors, and other people Newell called family. I always enjoyed visiting with Newell whenever we did the “Jordan loop”! He was a man of many stories, dedicated to his herd, and devoted to Rebecca, Henry, and May. I truly think that Newell never met a stranger and was willing to help anyone out even when he wasn’t asked to do so. The Big Guy will be missed by everyone that crossed paths with him….I really wish I’d known about the sheep story before though! Too funny! No words will take away the pain of this loss or any for that matter….we just need to keep his memory alive by telling stories and remembering how good of a guy he was. Rest in peace, Newell, rest in peace.
