Norman Leroy Carey, age 66, of Miles City, Montana, passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2004 at the Holy Rosary Hospital. He valiantly battled cancer for over five years.

Norm was born on March 29, 1937 in Ismay, Montana, the only child of Hansine and Clayton Carey. The family, along with the Victor Carey family, moved to a farm in Kinsey in 1940. Norm attended grade school in Kinsey and graduated from Custer County High School in 1955. He married Frankie Hougaard in 1956. They were married for over thirty years and raised three children. Norm farmed in Kinsey until 1963. He then bought the farm five miles south of Miles City on the Tongue River that he farmed until his death. He also sold seed corn for Trojan Seed, Keltgen Seed and Mycogen. He and four friends developed the Pine Hills Ranchettes, east of Miles City. He served on the Board of Trustees for Miles Community College and helped build the Miles City Little League field.

He is survived by his friend and caretaker, Arby Wolff; two cousins: Mencel Carey of Red Lodge and Fern Griggs of Billings; three children: Misty Carey of Bozeman, Camille Carey of New York City and Mike Carey of Miles City; and one grandson, Colton Carey of Bismarck, North Dakota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hansine and Clayton Carey.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Holy Rosary Hospice, 2600 Wilson, Miles City, MT 59301.
