Graveside services for Opal (Keck) Barbe, age 76, of Casper, Wyoming will be held Thursday, February 17, 2005 at the Recluse Cemetery. Opals family and friends will be gathering at 11:00 a.m. at the Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home in Gillette, Wyoming and processing to the Recluse Cemetery.
Opal Barbe died on Monday, February 14, 2005 at her home surrounded by her family in Casper, Wyoming.
Opal Barbe was born on February 3, 1929 the daughter of John Keck and Louisa (Maddox) Keck in Gillette, Wyoming, she was the youngest of 14 children. In 1947 she graduated from Campbell County High School. Later that year Opal married Ken Barbe on November 9, 1947 in Gillette. She was a dedicated homemaker, who by her count had prepared more than 65,000 dinners. Opal worked at Sweet Briar clothing shop for several years where she helped others dress in style. She loved her children, her home and her beloved husband. Opal enjoyed spending time at their Arrowhead Ranch north of Powder River.
Opal is survived by her husband Ken of Casper, Wyoming; daughters, Starla (Larry) Smith of Denver, Colorado; Jamie Barbe of Casper, Wyoming; son, Kenny (Judy) of Casper, Wyoming; grandson, Shawn (Cathie) Barbe of Denver, Colorado; granddaughter, Ashley (Matt) Smith and their two children Coulter and Mackenzie of Denver, Colorado; sister, Dona Smith of Weston, Wyoming; brother Clete Keck of Gillette, Wyoming.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Clayton, Claude and Conley; Sisters Zelma, Reba, Emily, Darlene, Retha and two infant sisters.
