In Memory Of

Ozzy Wilson, Age 30, of Lame Deer

August 2, 1987 – September 20, 2017

Ozzy Lee Wilson was unexpectedly called home by the Creator on September 20, 2017 at the age of 30. He was born on August 2, 1987 to Troy Wilson and Yvette Archambault in Crow Agency, MT. He was Lakota, Dakota, and a proud member of the Northern Cheyenne Nation who lived most of his life on the reservation . He attended grade school at Ashland Public and graduated from Lame Deer High School in 2005. He held various jobs throughout his life including cook and bus monitor for Lame Deer Head Start, an apprentice carpenter for the Northern Cheyenne Tribal Housing Authority, and positions at Sonic and Lil Caesar’s in Billings.

Ozzy had an outgoing personality, optimistic energy, and a kind heart. His grandpa Woodrow Whitecrow introduced him to the gourd dancing circle when he was a young man. He loved listening to music, singing along with or remixing songs, and would break out into dance on a whim. With his irrepressible humor, he was always cracking jokes and performing to make others laugh. He had a positive effect on everyone he met. If he learned someone was having a bad day, he would immediately go out of his way to make them smile.

Ozzy also enjoyed fishing, riding horses, and spending time with family. He loved all of his nieces and nephews very much. He lived in Lame Deer where he helped his partner, Markita Huntsalong, raise her three kids, taking the youngest, Ti’Lea, as his own and giving her the last name Wilson. His gregarious nature and friendly manner drew people to him. He made others feel safe from harm when they were in his presence. Ozzy was quite the character and is truly unforgettable.

It was often remarked that Ozzy had very good manners and lived according to the Cheyenne values of respect and giving. More than anything, Ozzy will be remembered for his willingness to help others. He would give the shirt off his back or the shoes off his feet if somebody needed them. At the age of 19, Ozzy registered to be an organ donor. As a result of this selfless decision, three individuals have successfully received his donations. He gave of himself to help others live, and lives on through them.

Ozzy was not supposed to leave us this way, but he also wasn’t expected to live as long as he did. He escaped death on more than one occasion. This included an accident during a Junior ROTC “ropes course” where he was left hanging by his neck and another accident where he was shot in the chest. The bullet ricocheted inside his rib cage collapsing one lung but, miraculously, missed his heart and other vital organs. Ozzy was a fighter and survivor who was proud of his scars. Because of these incidents and more, Ozzy lived his life to the fullest and never feared meeting the Creator.

He is preceded in death by his great-grandmothers Thelma TwoTwo and Rosanne Bear; his grandmother Lois Pavek; his aunts Bernadine Bahr and Leslie Fisher; his uncle Eugene Archambault; his cousin Crystal RedRobe-Parker, and his grandfathers Woodrow Whitecrow, George Wilson, and George Archambault, Sr.

He is survived by his grandmothers Deloris Whitecrow, Inez Foote, Amy Foote, Nellie Speelman, Geraldine Fisher, Amanda Dillard, and Donna Paul; grandfathers, Louis Pavek, Daniel Foote, Mervin TwoTwo, and Vincent TwoTwo; his parents Troy and Teresa Wilson, and Yvette Archambault; his brothers and sisters Desiree Kroll, Deana Spotted Elk (Shannon Seminole), Jesse Wilson, Snidly Wilson, Nicholas Strand, Barry Jade Bement, Courtnee Bement (Sonny Crazymule, Jr.), Mason Parker, and Zachary Wilson; and his favorite cousin-sister Heather Wilson (Dutch Simpson). He is also survived by his close friends Chan Ziler, Kristie Ziler, Alvin Parker, Flora Parker, Ashley Big Head, and Louie Castro; his aunts Georgia Wilson, Marie (David) Powell, Annie Wilson (Josh Ray), Helen Wilson (James Swank), Esther (Willie) Williams, Anna Pavek (Jeff Walters), Elaine Pavek, Lynette (Tony) Leone, Diane (Leonard) Brien, Donna Fisher, Shelly Fisher, and Thelma Fisher; uncles Eldon (Robyn) Foote, Mike (Melanie) Pavek, John (Denielle) Pavek, Johnny (Michelle) Wilson, Kip Wilson, Dino Wilson, George Archambault, Jr., Pierre (Carol) Archambault, Michael (Kelly) Archambault, Ruben (Matilda) Littlehead, Chad (Anita) Littlehead, Arlon Fisher, Allen Fisher, Virgil Fisher, Vernon (Paula) Fisher, and Roy Fisher; his cousins Shawn Fisher, Daryl Bixby, James Bixby, Kasey Fisher, Dane Fisher, Myron Bement, and Victor Three Irons; and his nieces and nephews Aliyah, Issiah, Jayce, Max, Colton, Dalton, Navelle, Chance, Karter, and Sonny. His relatives include the following families: Footes, Archambaults, TwoTwos, Fishers, Littlewhitemans, Black Weasels, Janices, Killsnights, Cluettes, Means, Goudreaus, and more. If we have forgotten to mention someone, we apologize.

Dear Wilson family. I am very sorry to have read of the recent death of your loved one, Ozzy. Please accept my sincere condolences. I would like to share something that I have personally found to be very comforting. It is found in the Bible at John 5:28,29 and at Revelation 21:3-5. These verses tell us that soon God is going to bring about a resurrection of our dear loved ones, as well as do away with all of the many causes we have for suffering, including sickness, pain & death. Knowing this has always comforted me and it is my hope that these thoughts will likewise comfort your family also during this most difficult time in your lives.

May the Lord give you that peace that passes all understanding. Remember Proverbs 3: 5 & 6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart & lean not unto your own understanding. Acknowledge him in all thy ways & he will direct your path.
