Loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Patricia M. Matz, 93, of Forsyth Montana passed away on Monday, May 17, 2021.
Pat was born on February 24, 1928 in Forsyth, Montana, to Bert and Emilie Shotwell. She attended school in Forsyth and graduated from Forsyth High School in 1946. She completed several college courses and art classes.
On May 28, 1949, she married John Matz, her loving husband of 51 years. John’s work lead them to live in Montana, California, and Idaho until they retired to Libby, Montana in 1980. They moved back to Forsyth in 2000.
While family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, were Pat’s first love, she also loved the mountains, fishing, huckleberry picking, gardening, cooking, her pets, and creating lots of artistic projects for her family. She was a member of Bethlehem Chapter of Eastern Star. While in Libby, she enjoyed doing a lot of volunteer work.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughters: Danae (Dick) Bills, Jeanne (Bruce) Jensen, Linda (Craig) Staples; grandchildren: Erin Bills (Ben Anderson), Casey Jensen (Emmylou Court), Kirsten (Byron) Cooper, Gabe (Erin) Falcon, and Lindsay Troy; great grandchildren: Rowan and Dane Jensen, Tor and Tryg Cooper, Chance and Cash Falcon, Maddie Troy, and Freyja Anderson; her brother: Bob Shotwell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John; brothers, Dick and Jack Shotwell, and her sister, Bonnie Marquis.
Mom was truly “unforgettable”, and she will be forever in our hearts.
Pat’s family would like to give a special thank you to the nurses and caregivers at the Rosebud Health Care Center Long Term Care for their loving and compassionate care of our mother.
Cremation has taken place. No services will be held upon her request.
If by chance you wish to remember me, do it with a kind deed or word to someone who needs you. If you do as I have asked, I will live forever… Robert Trent
