On the evening of November 14, 2015, Paul Lynn Oakland, Sr. passed away at his home in Miles City, Montana. Paul was 68 years old.
Paul Lynn Oakland, Sr. was born on February 26, 1947 to Raymond and Winnie Oakland in Williston, North Dakota. He attended country grade school in Cartwright, North Dakota. He graduated from Fairview High School in 1965. He then attended college in Dickinson, North Dakota before entering the United States Army serving his country for three years. Paul was a very patriotic man who proudly served his country. After returning to the United States he attended Dawson College in Glendive, Montana where he became reacquainted with Judy Tabbert. They were joined in marriage on August 22nd, 1970 and lived in Sidney, Montana where they gave birth to their first born, Paul Jr. They then moved to Billings where Paul worked for International Harvester and also had, Jennifer Kay. In 1977 they moved to Miles City and purchased International Harvester before starting construction. Paul leaves his mark on many a projects in Miles City as well as his work ethic to his children and workers. Unfortunately Paul was diagnosed with cancer in 2006 forcing him into retirement. However, he and Paul Jr. did manage to finally build Judy’s dream home after many years of patiently waiting.
Paul Lynn Oakland, Sr. is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Judy Kathleen Tabbert Oakland and his two children, Paul Lynn Oakland, Jr. (Marie) and Jennifer Kay Hirsch (Jason) along with their grandchildren, Cole Michael Hirsch, Kaitlyn Dawn Hirsch, Kyra Marie Oakland, Haiden Paul Oakland, a sister, Jane Oakland and his faithful companion Luna. Although we would like to mention each of the brother and sister in laws names, Paul married Judy who came from a small army.

For the entire Judy “army” and everyone else. When Paul and Judy owned and operated Crossroads Equipment in the early 80s, their buying gasoline from Elaine and me at our Second Base on Valley Drive East actually were, like Al Makelky, the real reasons we made a go of our so small a business there. I believe GOD has His hands all over this second tribute here: I have loved, absolutely loved, my living in my nice big home since August, 1999, here on South 4th Street next to the Town and Country Club. I have told no fewer than 500 people, “I love living in this house that Paul Oakland built.” May GOD have him already building the mansions Jesus has promised all of mankind in the eternity of Heaven.

Robert L. Johnson says
Mrs Oakland and family. Earlier today while doing some research I found Paul’s obituary above. Please know how sorry I am to learn of his passing. My condolences to you and your family. I served with Paul at the 1st Maintenance Battalion, in Neckersulm, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany in 1968-69. I was one of the company clerks. I only arrived in late July 1968 and Paul and others had been with the company for several years. Along with the other soldiers, he taught me the robes and helped me settle in. He told me all about growing up on a ranch in North Dakota. In recent years when Williston made headlines for oil exploration, I bet Paul was as surprised as I was. I returned to the states in late January 1969, and lost track of him, but I will always remember he thoughtfulness and sincerity of purpose. These last few minutes at the computer typing this note to you have brought back fond memories for those few months in Germany. Most respectfully, Robert L. Johnson (Chicago, Ill)
